This afternoon’s post is all about bringing the notion of a good old fashioned lingerie shower back in vogue. Back when my sisters were getting married (80s), it was fairly common for there to be two bridal showers: one for household goods and another for some romantic and racy lingerie. When my eldest sister, my Matron of Honor and all around best buddy of the universe got married, it was a “come as you are,” but we’re going to surprise you and kidnap you out of your bed for a fun filled extravaganza. Okay, it was fun once you realized what was really going on, because those first couple of minutes are a bit jarring (especially to a nine-year-old such as myself).
Anyhoo, why not bring back the idea of a lingerie shower, especially for the bride that already has an established home? So, this year I decided that we’d add a bit of racy lace goodness to the show and we’ve added both vintage and handmade shops to our section that I hope will grow a bit in the next year. Enjoy!
I began the Etsy Virtual Bridal Show last year to support individual artisans and vendors and to provide couples with alternatives to the mass produced wedding finds out there is traditional stores. The bridal world is evolving and growing away from the expected and moving toward individual craftsmanship and DIY touches. What’s great about Etsy is that you too can have a handmade look to your wedding without sacrificing your fingerprints to your hot glue gun.
In addition to helping individually owned shops, I wanted to bring awareness to my chosen charity: Wish Upon A Wedding. “Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation. Often, couples facing such situations do not have the energy, time, money, or resources needed to plan their wedding.
