Check Out the Homemade Arcade a 9 Year Old Built in a Boyle Heights Car Parts Shop

New, 16 comments

This is already well on its way to viraldom, but it's too heartwarming not to share--a genius nine year old kid named Caine Monroy has taken over his dad's Boyle Heights auto parts shop with a homemade arcade "featuring a claw made out of an S-hook, a foosball-ish table with toy soldiers for goalies, and SO MUCH MORE," says LA Weekly (even the normally hard as nails paper is charmed). Since most of the car parts business has gone online, Caine doesn't get a ton of business, but last year filmmaker Nirvan Mullick stopped in for a part for his Corolla and had a blast playing some mini basketball. So he organized a flash mob to come play at the arcade--the invite hit the front page of Reddit and a huge crowd showed up. And now we have something in our eye, excuse us. Meanwhile, Mullick's efforts have helped raise nearly $80,000 for Caine's college fund. You can visit Caine's Arcade any day from 9 to 5, but Caine is only there on the weekends. We expect this one will be a busy Saturday.
