A group of House Republicans walked out of a recent meeting after Rep. Rick Allen's (R-GA) actions at the outset, The Washington Times reported.
"It was f*cking ridiculous," said one lawmaker present at the meeting, who requested anonymity.
Allen allegedly opened the meeting by reciting an unidentified Biblical verse condemning homosexuality. He also allegedly suggested that some of the legislators present "were opposing Christianity" because they supported anti-discrimination protections for LGBT Americans.
The report surfaced shortly after House GOP members scuttled an energy spending bill after Democrats added an amendment prohibiting federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of gender identity or sexuality, a clause House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) called a "poison pill."
An unidentified party aide said Allen's actions made "a lot of members clearly uncomfortable and upset."
