I love these easy-to-make Ric Rac Roses!

– Supplies –
Ric Rac (I used 3/4″)
Hot Glue
Accessory to attach it to
The first thing to know about this Ric Rac Rose is that the wider the Ric Rac, the taller the rose.
And the longer the Ric Rac, the wider the rose.
If you wanted to make some tiny ones, I would go with the smallest size Ric Rac.
I started out by cutting two pieces of Ric Rac at 21 inches.
I ended up using a bit less than 21 inches… probably 16 or 17 inches. I cut off the excess when I got to the size I wanted.
Now we are going to “braid” the two pieces of Ric Rac together.
Keep going until you get to the end.
Take the end and curl the Ric Rac in.
Continue rolling the Ric Rac.
As I was rolling it, I found that I liked one side more than the other.
So I focused on that side, making sure I liked how it looked.
You can put a little hot glue on the sides as you are rolling it.
I would just put a dab for every round.
If you forget to do it, like me :), I’ve found it still stays together really well.
Here is how the side looks.
When you like the size of your rose, you can stop rolling.
Put a little glue where you want to end the Ric Rac.
Now put some glue on the under side of the rose.
Bring the Ric Rac under the rose and adhere it to the glue.
If you have some excess Ric Rac, this is where you will cut it off.
Then glue the tails securely under the rose.
Now we are finished with the rolling and gluing.
It looks pretty, just like this!
But I love the petals, so we’re going to pull the edges of the Ric Rac down.
Keep pulling the Ric Rac edges down until you like how it looks.
I stopped half way up my rose.
Your Ric Rac rose is ready to be attached to what you wish. I think it would look beautiful in hair, on a necklace, on a purse, on earrings, so many things!
I decided to put mine on a ring.
I got a Stretchy Ring Base from The Ribbon Retreat.
I put quite a bit of hot glue on the base part.
Then attach your Ric Rac rose.
After I let it dry for a bit, I pushed the edges of the rose down over the base so it was a little flatter.
I LOVE it!
It will definitely add some fun to my wardrobe.

GAH! I’ve tried at least 5 times to make this, with different sizes ric rac and from different tutorials. I liked your version because it didn’t require any sewing. However I can’t seem to braid the 2 ric racs! They’d fall apart or curl every which way and it got super annoying so I glued at random spaces. Then, as soon as I rolled them up, the petals wouldn’t open!!! Where did I go wrong?! I suppose I could leave the rose closed but I want the petals! Any suggestions, anyone?
Hi Lentina! That is really weird yours aren’t working! The Ric Rac I use is from The Ribbon Retreat and never curled and braided really easily. The size does matter as well. The size I use in the tutorial is the easiest to braid. Is your Ric Rac from The Ribbon Retreat?

Also…in response to “lentina” about the braiding…mine was awkward & curled a ton oto, so I just let it be until I started rolling it up, then just smoothed it out as I went along…
And about gluing and not being able to ‘open’ the petals, make sure not to glue the entire width of the ric-rac… just a small little dot/line in the middle or towards (what will be) the bottom, that way the top part won’t be glued, thus being able to open them outwards. ๐

Hello! I am going to making these and giving them to my bridesmaids when I ask them to be in my wedding. My colors are Coral and Turquoise. I was wondering what color you used above? I see on The Ribbon Retreat that they have both Aqua and Turquoise but to me the turquoise looks a bit dark. Any information would be great! And thanks for a great tutorial!

I know this sounds really stupid but I’m having trouble braiding the Rick rack? Any suggestions?
Hi Marissa! Thank you for your question. It is not a stupid question at all. When I have braided ric rac before to make these awesome ric rac roses, I had to pin the ric rac to my pant leg to get a good nice even braid. This also helped me keep my braid tight. I want to make this for my mom for her birthday. Is there any way possible that I could make it less bulky? I like the width, the height is a little much and and it’s a little to bulky for me. Is there any way?
