Two thirds of parents believe that too much emphasis is placed on exams, a poll has found.

A survey commissioned by The Times and carried out by YouGov found that a majority of people in every political party, age group and region feel that the education system puts too much emphasis on examinations.

Sixty-five per cent of parents of school-age children who responded to the survey said the system put too much emphasis on tests and qualifications, while 16 per cent believed the balance was about right.
