Kensington Palace couldn’t deny the ‘true’ smears against Duchess Meghan

The Duke and duchess of Cambridge stand with the duke and Duchess of Sussex at W

As part of the Duchess of Sussex’s lawsuit against the Daily Mail, the Mail’s lawyers have been nitpicking every single argument Meghan’s lawyers have made. There seem to be a lot of pre-trial shenanigans, and this week we got another one when Meghan’s lawyer responded to another motion from the DM. Meg’s lawyer explained why Meghan’s friends felt it necessary to go to People Magazine in early 2019 for that cover story which hit back on a lot of the smear campaign being waged against her. Meg’s lawyer said in a court filing/response: “As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself.”

Those of us who were paying attention to the smears at the time completely understood: there was almost complete radio silence in defense of Meghan from all of the palaces. Which is even more notable in retrospect, as we’ve seen the lengths Kensington Palace has gone to in their effort to defend the Duchess of Cambridge from an unflattering Tatler cover story that THEY authorized. KP was truly sending legal threats and calling up Richard Kay at the Daily Mail because Norfolk rich bitches said Kate is thin and dull. But KP couldn’t be bothered to actually push back against ANY of the crazy narratives about Meghan? Apparently not. And here’s KP’s explanation for why they couldn’t.

Meghan Markle felt ‘unprotected’ by the Royal ‘institution’ because it could not defend her against stories in the press that angered her but were true, sources have claimed. In papers filed in the High Court this week, Meghan’s lawyers said press coverage of her while she was pregnant damaged her mental health. The documents also say she was ‘unprotected by the institution and prohibited from defending herself’.

A source confirmed to The Times that this referred to the team of press officers and wider office staff at the Palace. Officials will often refuse to comment to journalists when an on-the-record reply would confirm a story or damage the royal family member involved.

That paper reported one case that had angered the Duchess involved the resignation of her PA Melissa Toubati, who quit in 2018 amid rumours she had been reduced to tears by Meghan’s demands.

The Kensington Palace press team had difficulty in denying the stories, because they were true, The Times said.

‘The stories were a drop in the ocean compared to what was going on,’ another source said.

[From The Daily Mail]

So Kensington Palace wouldn’t push back or officially deny any of the negative stories about Meghan because… those stories were true. First of all, that’s another lie! Kensington Palace pushes back against true stories all the time, look no further than the Tatler debacle and Kensington Palace running to People Magazine to authorize a do-over. All because Tatler told the truth, that Kate is dull and lazy and her family is tacky. Look no further than the entire Rose Hanbury debacle, which was happening at the very same time as the smear campaign against Meghan! Another true story, which Kensington Palace did the most to “manage” through the communications office and the legal team.

But really, most of the stories about Meghan during the height of the smear campaign were simple incidents or events which were overblown BY Kensington Palace and by the media. If Meghan ate avocado toast, it was a story about war and famine. If she said something to Kate, Kate would burst into tears because “mean Meg.” And on and on.

My Lord, I love that green coat she is wearing in one of the pics.
Meghan and Harry should be thanking their lucky stars they are in the US and not with the BRF. I bet they are placing wagers as to how Petty Lizzy will conduct damage control for her favorite.
But when one truly looks at it: the protection of a pedophile and of a lazy mean girl but not one comfort to Meghan – even while pregnant- it truly is maddening.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

I agree with all of that, Seraphina. Oh, and I’m also with you on that luscious green coat. Want!

  2. Shane says:

I find it funny that after 34 years of being a lovely person, Meg just up and turned into a monster. Just like that. Didn’t Andrew Morton spend months in LA advertising that he was writing a book about her, and no one came forward with anything salacious (apart from the Markle, but as we can see, family can be the most harmful to us)… Her biggest crime is being a hard worker? The fact that this is the hill KP want to die on? Wow!

    • Sofia says:

Not even that. Byline revealed that The Sun hired a PI to dig info on Meghan and even they found nothing (if they did, it would have been all over the front pages of the tabloids already)

    • Ronaldinhio says:

There were lots of mistruths KP could have covered but reporting in the Times comes from the Murdoch group and they have plenty of skin in this flaying
      The bogus renovations of Frogmore.
The bogus push for her rejection of other accommodation
The straight out of Compton stories
The leaving her mother out of her baby shower
The cookery book was home to a Jihadi cell
The idea that all her staff found her pushy and difficult and multiple staff resigned from her employ
The endless lies told about her, over and over day after day
Had KP come down hard on them they would have potentially reined it in
      They are awful people, awful

      • bluemoonhorse says:

        THIS ^^^^^^^^

      • Olivia says:

What saddens me is how Prince Harry might have felt seeing Meghan cry each day because of these lies. Imagine someone you love going through pain. I can’t imagine. I don’t think Harry will ever forgive them. He will only ever see them again at queen funeral.

      • LahdidahBaby says:

        What Ronald says. Yep.

    • Sojaschnitzel says:

Here’s the logic flaw, from where I’m standing: if Meghan really were that difficult, she would have been blacklisted in Hollywood long time ago.

      • Sid says:

Exactly. And there would have been stories as soon as it was revealed that she was dating Harry. But there was nothing. And I’m sure some will try and argue that Suits was filmed in Canada and therefore there wouldn’t be any Hollywood stories about her, but that is not how it works. Castmembers of shows like that will still be in L.A. and NYC often enough for promotional work for the show and their own careers. If Meghan were difficult, we would have heard about it.

      • Mads says:

This is what I don’t understand. I had never seen anything negative about her on the gossip sites (CDAN, Blind Gossip etc,) and yet now she is a social climbing narcissist; husband emasculator; bully etc.

      • Nic919 says:

@Sid – Toronto has a gossip network like anywhere else and if she was horrid it would have been known. See the Jessica Mulroney story. People here knew she was difficult. Those stories were not being said about Meghan.

      • morrigan01 says:

I’ve *been* saying this. Word gets around fast in the instrusty about how you are to work with. If Meghan has been a nightmare it would have been common talk/gossip in the industry that she was.

Instead, it was the exact opposite. All anyone has said is that she’s sweet, kind and professional. And, at this juncture, I’m going to take the Industries word over the UK Tabs and KPs any day of the week.

    • Lisa says:

Her other crime was being more beautiful and interesting that Kate, according to KP.

  3. Tanguerita says:

I honestly hate these people. They are nothing but abominable, lowest of the low trash in fancy clothes and stolen jewels.

    • Tessa says:

I don’t like the senior royals (other than Meghan and Harry who were senior royals), they seem to be very petty and don’t hesitate to throw people under buses. With his parents the way they are I don’t hold out much hope for George.

  4. Lisa says:

The gaslighting is unbelievable. That family and the British media will have a sane person crazy.

    • Kalana says:

      The Narcissist’s Prayer:

      That didn’t happen.
And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.
And if it was, I didn’t mean it.
      And if I did…

      You deserved it.

      • North of Boston says:

        You forgot one ….

And if I did do it or say it, I was just joking.

      • Ronaldinhio says:

The worst thing was when they accused her of narcissism
Like the final twist of a knife in which she might have harmed herself or been psychologically harmed permanently

  5. Anne Marie says:

Wow I can’t believe they’re going with this even with an ongoing global protests against racism. Goes to show how tone deaf these clowns are. Im now praying this gets picked up by American and global media who regurgitate tabloids lies. It’ll further put the palace in hot water and prove their contempt and hatred for Meghan.
These people are so stupid they cant see past their own thoughts and to think that this empire/institution once governed huge colonies in Americas,Africa and Asia from their palace! I pray I live to see them brought down. After Andrew’s friend got arrested, its only time before she sings and implicates him to save herself. Princess Anne hot away with a fine after her felony charge when her dogs attacked a boy, I think Andrew will get time this time

    • windyriver says:

“…to think that this empire/institution once governed huge colonies in Americas, Africa and Asia…”

So, Hamilton is up now on Disney+, just watched the King George segment, couldn’t help being struck by several lines – “You’ll be back, time will tell, you’ll remember that I loved you well”, and especially the end, “When push comes to shove, I will kill your friends and family, to remind you of my love.”

I’m thinking of course of the previous stories about Harry being welcome to come back to royal life – with no mention of Meghan/Archie. It’s just one minor song in a play about something else that took place hundreds of years ago, but I’d say they nailed it spot on with respect to the RF, past and present.

    • Bobslaw says:

The fact that KP is doubling down….who are these clowns? Don’t they realize that this just makes them look like gaping assholes? Don’t authorize staff to say stuff like this!!!

  6. bamaborn says:

Just so glad they left that hornet’s nest.

    • Love says:

Me too! I saw something on twitter, where someone who knows their housekeeper said they’re the sweetest couple, and prefer to do most work by themselves. They just want the house clean.

Meg cooks… I bet she’s keeping H well fed. You KNOW British food is bland as hell. All that flavour she’d be adding to his meals, I bet he can’t get enough of.

p.s. you guys should try her courgette sauce pasta… it’s divine!

      • Olivia says:

I don’t think they want to but I doubt Meghan or Harry can trust anyone now. I would be scared being in their shoes. I don’t know how Meghan did it but I’m surprised she didn’t suffer a mental breakdown. They can’t even trust a housekeeper now or a nanny. Being such high profile couple anyone they employ will be looking for news to sell and if they cant find news they’ll manufacture one and sell it. Even her dad betrayed her. What a world we live in. Meghan is so inspirational

      • Tanisha says:

They still have the nanny they hired if I’m not mistaken. She came with them no?

    • North of Boston says:

Yes! That’s my take on it too!

I never had much of an opinion about the BRF aside from thinking the whole Charles/Camilla thing was gross.

But what they’ve done and haven’t done, and what they’ve apparently had people do on their behalf wrt Harry and Meghan … all of that has been so amazingly heartless, bigoted, mean-spirited, stupid, parochial and short-sighted. On that last point, if you wanted to improve your brand in 2019-2020, to keep it relevant when it’s at risk of fading into history/crashing down in uncertain times, you really couldn’t have asked for two better spokespeople than the two of them. How insecure do you have to be to NOT want the two of them playing on your team, talking up your causes, etc? What at selfish jerk do you have to be when you’re in a position of MASSIVE privilege and power and don’t bother lifting a finger to defend them or help them or even come out in support of them in any way? Charles? William? Elizabeth? Really, you thought it was OK to just shrug, stay silent or pile on when someone was trashing your son/brother/grandson and his wife and son?

Courtiers and palace insiders are probably by definition petty, power-hoarding, back-stabbing jerks who don’t want any change or anything new that might threaten their zone of power, so it’s not surprising they’d toss dirt. But the supposed ‘leaders’ of the RF, with all the power already, who didn’t lift a finger or breathe a word of defense or stirred the pot against Meghan and Harry can sink in quicksand for eternity for all I care.

After their failure to do even the minimum of ‘the right thing’ in this situation, I just have no respect for any of them and really don’t see the point of them at all in this era.

      • Dilettante says:

“Courtiers and palace insiders are probably by definition petty, power-hoarding, back-stabbing jerks who don’t want any change or anything new that might threaten their zone of power, so it’s not surprising they’d toss dirt. But the supposed ‘leaders’ of the RF, with all the power already..”

        This! Definition of dysfunctional.

  7. Kalana says:

Andrew is a predator. That is true and the Palace has rushed to protect him every step of the way.

Kate wears extensions and that is true and the Palace denied it within hours of it being published.

From the serious to the banal, the Palace does refute true stories.

And here they are commenting again but stayed quiet about Archie being compared to a chimp.

    • Green Desert says:

Exactly, Kalana. Such BS from KP, per usual.

    • kelleybelle says:

They also denied her botox, which is obvious when she talks and moves her mouth. She’s had botox. More truth defended with lies.

  8. Valiantly Varnished says:

KP is full of $hit. As usual.

  9. Lizzie says:

This is the lowest of the low.

  10. Lara says:

It makes me really sad. I guess I wanted to think that she was like ‘ok the press are horrible but I know it’s not true and I have Harry etc’ but to hear that her friends were that worried about her – it’s so horrible.

  11. Priscila Bezerra-Fischer says:

    Wow, these people are shameless!

Nice angle KP. I hope Charles is smart enough to realize that, if there was any chance at reconciliation between the brothers, it is now gone.

KP is basically confirming they were the ones leaking it because it was the truth as they seem it.

Of course it was all true and they cannot deny it. It is true they leaked stuf…it is true Meghan scared them with her work ethic…it is true they did not want her anywhere near the jewels to the point Harry had to say what Meghan wants, Meghan gets, and is true they leaked even this one and spin it to show him as completely under her influence.

To them biracial women are nothing. Meghan should have been grateful for being chosen as scapegoat for William, because she was not worth it. To them, black women are always wrong. Black woman makes white women cry! Black women bad! Black women likes nice clothes….Black woman is smarter than white women who work for her. Black woman bad.

here, I fixed for KP- THIS is the truth.

    • Mtec says:

Yeap! If we’re to believe the DM on this, it’s very telling they singled out Kensington Palace as basically the arbitrator of denying or confirming smears. As I’ve said before, they keep telling on themselves. Stories go through the sources the RR have at KP for approval all the time, KP said it themselves during their denial of the Tatler story. I have no doubt in my mind KP staff/courtiers and Will and Kate were directly involved in the smear campaign again Meghan specifically (and Harry basically by association, or whenever Will got jealous of him enough).

And basically they just confirmed there are leaks coming from KP all the time as well. But what did W&K do about that? Absolutely nothing, no investigation, no firing, nothing. As long as it benefits them to let staff “leak” to tabloids they’re just fine and dandy. This behaviour from W&K who want to pretend they care about other’s mental health. From Kate who pretends she cares about kids in early years (Archie fits in the range of 0-5yrs she supposedly cares so much about) and pregnant mothers. They don’t care. It’s all lip service and about their image. Horrible things were happening to members of their family! And not even to pretend to care about the causes they’re involved with that directly affected H&M did they lift a finger to help/welcome/protect them—actually quite the opposite. All they care about is protecting their own ego.

    • Tealie says:

This is a very on point analysis of the whole thing. Ut’s foundation lies on the idea she should have been ‘greatful’ because her mixed non ‘aryan’ heritage makes her less than

  12. Jay says:

    Ugggh.

Well, I know it’s not much in the way of consolation for Meghan, but given what I’ve seen of KP’s underwhelming and shambolic press strategies over the last year, having them leap to your defense might not be the best thing.

  13. Harla says:

Let’s not forget how hard KP pushed back against the story that Harry and Meghan left due to William’s “bullying attitude “. I recall hearing one royal commentator stating that the royals only deny stories when they’re true.

    • anon says:

The royals only deny stories when they’re true! Exactly. The royals only deny stories when they’re true, and they cannot denies the smears and lies they have put out to the tabloids themselves. This is why there were no denials.

  14. Florence says:

I love that top photo. You can tell who has beautiful, kind thoughts and who has bitter, jealous ones.

    • Erinn says:

“ You can tell who has beautiful, kind thoughts and who has bitter, jealous ones”

Can we stop with these kinds of comments – not just here but on all threads where we delve into women’s looks. There are PLENTY of stunning, beautiful people who are absolute garbage humans. There are plenty of ugly people in the world who are absolute gems to have in your life. I’m so sick of this line of thinking in order to raise someone up because it’s not at all a “rule” of how things work. Yes, Meghan looks and seems to actually be lovely. But let’s stop pushing the narrative that people’s looks directly relate to what kind of person they are.

      • Elizabeth says:

I agree with Florence. The expressions on their faces have nothing to do with conforming to oppressive beauty standards — this is about their choices in how they interact with others, which tell us a lot about them. Kate has a pinched, petulant expression and Meghan has a happy, open look. Of course it’s easy to screen grab at an unflattering moment but (in general) Kate does act repressed and standoffish to me.

I think that memorial service, Meghan’s final appointment for the royals, really showed this, as we all saw Meghan smile and be gracious and Kate ignore her and turn a cold shoulder.

      • anon says:

Not looks, facial expressions. Both of those women are at an age when they have the faces they deserve, and it’s not about features but about expression.

      • Beach Dreams says:

Yikes. Talk about totally misinterpreting a comment. It was quite obvious what Florence meant and attractiveness wasn’t it.

      • Florence says:

Erinn – I’m paraphrasing that Roald Dahl comment.

Both women are objectively pretty, but only one of them is smiling and looking like a good representation of her role. The other looks like she’d rather be on Mars.

      • GuestWho says:

My grandmother always told me that you get the face you deserve by the time you’re 40.

      • Nic919 says:

I think it’s fair to comment to say that Kate has bitch face and that it’s more of a comment on her empty soul instead of her physical looks.

      • Tessa says:

Kate was very nasty to women who she perceived as “threats” to her future with WIlliam, even when they first started dating. This according to her biographers. She was not even dating William when she saw him with a woman “coming on to him.” She rushed across and claimed to be William’s girlfriend even though she wasn’t then and the other woman left, WIlliam supposedly mouthed “thank you” to her. She also was known to give death stares to women who got near William. This was her way of life until she got that ring on her finger and even after the wedding as per the Rose situation. I think she wanted WIlliam and Harry to see her as the center of attention and could not stand it when Harry got married.

      • MJM says:

Dear God calm down. You completely misinterpreted Florence.

      • tcbc says:

I agree with you, Erinn. There are all kinds of studies that show that positive characteristics, including intelligence and kindness, are often attributed to attractive people based solely on their attractiveness. Whereas people with less symmetrical features, or those who fall outside the “conventional” (aka white, thin, rich) definition of beauty, have negative characteristics assigned to them. How often have you heard an overweight person called lazy for no reason?

Megan’s decency is separate from her external appearance, but she is more likely to be assigned as “decent” because she is beautiful. And Kate is often thought of as “better” than Megan because she is white, and Megan is not.

      • MissMarierose says:

I agree. It’s particularly meaningless to judge people from a photo when the people who choose the photo have an agenda.
Judge a person by THEIR actions, not someone else’s actions in choosing how to frame the narrative they’re pushing.

      • Green Desert says:

I’m reading this as a defense of Kate. I think it was very clear what Florence meant. You’re quick to defend someone I don’t think deserves it, so you jumped on a comment without considering the meaning. We all do it. But I think it’s been clear over the past few years what kind of people the Cambridges are. That’s what Florence meant. Not worth defending.

@MissMarierose – See my comments above. Most of us on this site DO judge actions, which was, again, Florence’s point. Kate and her husband don’t seem like great people. No one is calling anyone unattractive in this instance.

  15. Jaxonmeh says:

What the Royal Fam doesn’t seem to realize…they’re absolutely confirming everything publicly for Harry and Meghan. They’re completely doubling down and confirming the gaslighting and BS. In a public forum. And they will still be shocked when they don’t come back.

It sucks. But it’s also freeing. Because you can then point to it. To yourself, when you need reminders because sometimes you miss them or at least that sense of family. And to others who are good people, yet don’t quite understand this dynamic but will at least agree this is all messed up and want the best for you.

Sure some people will always interpret all of this uncharitably toward them for various reasons. But when you decide you are done, those peoples thoughts no longer matter to you anymore either.

    • anon says:

      THIS^^^^

Right here. They just completely showed their asses.

Harry, sitting at breakfast in L.A. right now, is probably gutted seeing this.

“Yeah, we said it. We outted that bitch and sold her out because she deserved it. So what?”

  16. Sofia says:

This just seems like a shitty excuse. Some things could have been EASILY checked to see if they were true or not. Such as the reasons of staff leaving and what exactly was done in the Frogmore renovations because tabloids were saying things like “she had a yoga studio built!”

But no, they didn’t say anything because having an evil duchess against the good duchess benefited the Cambridges

  17. Kriseth says:

When will they learn to just stfu? They were doing really well not saying a thing in defense of Meghan. Racists are always defending something but the actual issue at hand. So tone-deaf.

  18. Marivic says:

Ghislane Maxwell has been arrested. Prince Andrew is going to be justifiably dragged again with her arrest, as there’s a mounting pressure for him to speak to the FBI. This talk about Meghan’s claim that she’s unsupported by the Royal Family is just a case of wagging the dog. Andrew’s questionable alliance with Maxwell and Epstein is the more damaging issue here. Maxwell’s arrest brings the spotlight back on Andrew. The British media finds Meghan’s claim a diversion from a more impactful and damaging issue which is Andrew’s unlawful sexual predatory behavior.
And as usual the Royal Family, to protect Andrew, has Meghan as its scapegoat with the British media the willing executioner. So there’s really truth to her claim that she was unsupported by the Royal Family. Up to this very day they don’t support her because, deep inside of them, they never recognized her as one of them. Good she left them. And with PHarry to boot. Take that !

    • Tessa says:

Maybe the Queen will “threaten” to remove their titles to provide a smokescreen for Andrew. Would not put it past her.

      • Lady D says:

Hopefully M&H will respond with a cheerful, “take them” Would sure take the wind out of petty betty’s sails. Although, rumour has it she can’t just yank his title of prince, no matter how much she wants to. Still, the DM has a really crass and stupid audience, they might buy into that.

      • FicklePickle says:

It would take a literal act of Parliament, and I don’t see them managing to get enough votes to pass THAT.

The last time they removed an aristocrat’s titles was a little over a century ago, and that was because they committed TREASON by fighting on the other side in WWI.

      • anotherlily says:

She can’t. Harry is a born Prince. His HRH status cannot be removed. Archie will also acquire HRH status when Charles is King. He will be in the same position as Prince Edward’s children. It was agreed that they would be raised without HRH status but at age18 they can decide for themselves. In theory Lady Louise can adopt the title HRH Princess Louise in two years if she wishes to.

Harry agreed not to use the HRH when he stood down from royal duties but it can’t be removed in the way his mother’s HRH was removed following her divorce. The same applies to his dukedom. Once bestowed it can’t be taken back. Archie will inherit this title. too. He is being raised as Archie Mountbatten-Windsor but, if he wants to, at 18 he can adopt the style HRH Prince Archie.

The Queen should abdicate and let Charles take over. She’s doing the UK no favours by hanging on.

      • anotherlily says:

To add to previous comment: The Queen can’t alter the line of succession. She can’t remove anyone or decide who will succeed her. Succession is established by law and so to a large degree are royal titles and noble titles. There has been an assumption that HRH status involves official duties and the York princesses were raised with that expectation. However, they were told before they left school that they would not have any official role and would need to find other work. The Yorks have never really accepted that.

Charles’ plans for a slimmed down monarchy might lead to alterations in the way HRH status is conferred but changes will involve legal processes.

    • Fluxus says:

Agreed! This is obfuscation to deflect away from Andrew— the gravity of this matter will test the very ability of the Monarchy to survive. Personally, I doubt it will…

  19. GR says:

This timing is actually pretty great for the queen – between stories about the lawsuit and Scobie’s upcoming book, there will be lots to hopefully distract people from Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest and subsequent renewal of interest in Andrew.

    • notasugarhere says:

That is WHY the royals released this pack of lies – to distract from the Maxwell arrest.

  20. Ginger says:

Meghan said this in official documents for a court case. I’m sure she has proof of this. I think I’m going to believe her over the racist staff at KP who apparently “looked down on her”

    • MissMarierose says:

This is a very good point, and I wish it were higher in this thread.
Meghan has put this information in official court documents that presumably are subject to perjury. The KP ‘sources’ running to the tabloids have not.
I bet they’d change their tune if they had to swear an oath to tell the truth.

    • anotherlily says:

Meghan’s lawyers have put the information in as a response to questions from the Mail’s lawyers.

  21. ABritGuest says:

Some of the stories when she was pregnant& still at KP involved her father claiming he had been cut off and had no support around the wedding. We know that’s not true now. Also the Markles has been allowed to run riot on making all sorts of claims which they would contradict themselves on. I imagine that would be very frustrating not to be able to comment on.

Difficult Duchess stories were largely based on staff turnover which could easily have been refuted& explained (to extent of confidentiality). There was the PA who reports said quit because of diva Meghan when Meghan’s court filings said the PA didn’t quit which I took to mean was fired or had a contract that wasn’t renewed. There was the Queen’s old assistant who had resigned whilst working for the Queen but agreed to stay on and help Meghan for six months but ended up staying almost a year after reports that she was quitting because of Meghan. There was another assistant who is still working for Travalyst who articles suggested had left because of Meghan. Meghan’s PS left for a new job in I think her home country, a police protection officer had left force altogether. The Cambridges have had a number of staff leave recently from KP& their foundation& there’s no suggestive reporting on this.

There was the article linking the cookbook to terrorism that KP surely could have commented on being such a sensitive topic& could have pointed out that Charles, William, Harry and senior politicians had visited.

Most importantly you can’t say Meghan was protected by the office when they were the same ones leaking stories & nasty nicknames to the press. And seemingly without any consequences to employment status.

    • notasugarhere says:

Wasn’t that PA hired just to help organize the wedding? Of course she was short term. She didn’t get hired permanently after as she might have wanted. She ended up bitching about it on SM, tweeting anti-Meghan sh!t, and destroyed her own career. Last I read she’s working as a night nanny.

      • Smices says:

Apparently that PA was incompetent to the point of subordination. Could not complete simple tasks despite being given ample time. And she left the tag on Meg’s red dress during the Oceania tour. Sabotage!

Apparently several of the staff assigned to her made it clear they had neither the skill set nor the interest in doing a good job for her. Hence the conflict with someone trying to get projects off the ground.

  22. Mich says:

Well it wasn’t true that Meg had cut off her father (which is why this whole case is going) and yet KP was silent. And it wasn’t just that KP leaked stories about Meghan, it is that they did it with the nastiest slant possible KNOWING the deep harm it would do. And then they did things like that budget flight stunt with the Cambridges. So cruel and tacky.

This statement just tells me that Will and Kate are behind the majority of the smear campaign. I agree with others. They wanted her to miscarry. What disgusting people.

    • Ginger says:

Thomas Markle said the royal family owe him. He did what KP told him to do. I have no doubt they told him to fake a heart attack so the wedding would be called off/ postponed. When that didn’t work he was part of the smear campaign to push Meghan out. He was quite when they were dating and when they first got engaged. But was a loose cannon all of a sudden when they got married. The texts between Harry, Meghan and Thomas said that this didn’t seem like him or read like him.

      • MsIam says:

Wow, if they told Toxic to fake a heart attack or pull some stunt to try and stop the wedding, then the RF is the lowest of the low. And Toxic specifically said the Queen owes me. So if that is true, which may or may not be the case because he’s a habitual liar, then this goes high up the food chain. This is more than just jealous brother and sister-in-law.

      • Nyro says:

        Ginger,
Yes, I remember that interview. “The royals owe me”. What an odd and random thing to say and my ears perked up immediately. What do they owe you, Thomas? What did you do for them? I truly believe he was paid by the Windsors I smear his daughter, fake a heart attack, and do anything else to stop the wedding from happening. They did not want that marriage to happen and They certainly didn’t not want Archie, a blood Prince with Black American heritage, to be born. I hope it all comes out in this lawsuit. I want Thomas Markle on the stand singing like a canary.

  23. anon says:

Here come the imaginary “palace sources”… in defense of the Daily Fail and the Murdoch propaganda machine.

  24. Sam says:

I can think of many that wasn’t true or if true, was blown up or had nothing to do with her.The Harry and Meghan bans neighbours from talking to them was a spoof that tabloids picked up and blamed on Meghan. The one about the staff parking again had nothing to do with them but who was blamed for it? Meghan. The high turnover of staff which is something that happens a lot with the royals was blamed on Meghan.Nevermind that a lot of the staff like Heather or Samantha Cohen who ‘left’ were still seen with them until this year.
Even the story about not wanting her pictures taken was her RPOs directive

  25. Kayleigh says:

You’d swear they’d only be happy if Harry had married K, too; who is clearly the only person for the job of being the only woman in the palace.

    Petty. Racists. Boring. Lazy.

You’re supposed to be queen one day, start acting like you have some self-esteem.

  26. Harper says:

So this means Charlotte is lucky to be alive because Meghan really did try and off her with that poisonous flower girl bouquet?

    • Priscila says:

Never forget after the flowers did not do the job, Evil Meghan tried to kill the children by making them walk in their bare legs…
Then, she literally tried to throw them under the bus by leaving the firm…

    • notasugarhere says:

Just like Kate tried to off Lady Louise and Charles’s step-granddaughter with the same poisonous flower girl bouquet. Just like Pip tried to off Charlotte with the same poisonous flower girl bouquet.

  27. Digital Unicorn says:

This confirms what was being said at the time – that the KP press team was working against them and would only answer to W&K (and Carole).

The tea is slowly being dripped into the public domain – the truth that it was the Cambridges that were behind the whole drama and Sussexit will be made public.

    • Nic919 says:

I feel like Meghan having lunch with Christian Jones and being papped was a message on many levels. First it confirmed that he would call the paps on her and I think she also confirmed that he was the leaker. The split in press offices happened not long after that as well.

      • TheOriginalMia says:

Great call, Nic919. It did seem strange at the time that they were papped together. After all, she’d spent nearly a year popping in and out of London without being spotted, and a luncheon with a new PR guy and poof! paps! It was odd, but should have clued us in as to Jones’ connections.

  28. aquarius64 says:

This leak from KP confirms Sussex vs. Cambridge. Now KP comm may have to testify in Meghan’s lawsuit and if there are stall tactics that’s worse. Tin foil tiara – the Feds picked up Gigi Maxwell. What’s to stop the prosecution to pay a visit to LA to talk to two royals about Andrew’s mess and what the institution would do to protect a royal person of interest when said person won’t talk? Tread carefully Windsors.

    • Mary says:

Yes, by refuting key aspects of Meghan’s defense, that source, and likely other KP staff and possibly the Cambridges (!!!), has just opened him or herself up to being called as a witness by the Fail. I so hope Kate has to appear and discuss her Botox and extensions!!!

      • Mary says:

By “Meghan’s defense” I meant her reply to the Fail’s defense that all is fair in love and publishing because of the five-friends People article (about which they are saying Meghan was aware).

  29. What eating you says:

So KP can deny that waity Katie didn’t get Botox, when it was clear by her sudden lack of wrinkles and the malnourished hue to her skin was gone that she had gotten a “refresher”. KP can also deny that she had hair extensions and let’s not even get into that Tatler situation but Meghan was meant to sit and get kicked while she was down? Kate and Bill Middleton were ready to sue because tatler shaded the Middleton and made billy goat look weak but the Sussex were meant to have stories go unchecked?

KP need to hold this L because even though they said that William never bullied Meghan which no one actually believes, I find it interesting that Kate was never mentioned, I guess if this really gets out of hand she is going to be the one to take the fall. Also KP never lifted a finger to help Meghan, they let abuse run rampant in there instagram comments but let someone comment Rose and there blocked.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Exactly. They could spew a string of denials for nonsense like Kate’s hair magically gaining several inches and extra volume overnight and a messy PR piece that she knew about (and likely participated in), but they “couldn’t” do anything for Meghan. The good thing about this is that the KP staff and their bosses are so remarkably incompetent that they’re digging their own graves in these claims. They’re making it quite clear who the majority of the smears came from.

  30. Edna says:

So according to the British tabloids “palace sources” couldn’t deny the stories because they were true. What Bu!!shit. Stories (both true and false) get denied all the time. These are just more shots fired at H&M showing the pettiness and anger of the KP staff and British Media. Let them keep digging a hole for themselves. Those with intelligence and eyes can clearly see what happened…it’s only the haters that buy their crap.

  31. Becks1 says:

Maybe the PA left in tears bc she was fired after they found out she was leaking to the press about them??

But wasn’t there a PA who did leave but came to the smart set launch (so was obviously still on good terms with M)?

Anyway, of course lots of these stories are true. That’s how they get away with writing them. It’s all about the spin. Meghan DOES love avocado toast. So of course that got spun into she is causing drought and famine.

She used certain flowers for her wedding. That’s true. It’s not true that she almost killed Princess Charlotte.

For the most part these papers were very careful – they took a fact and then just went over the edge with the headline and tone and commentary. The context always always always got distorted.

And yeah, ditto others who’ve pointed out that the palace does push back against true stories all the time, so they absolutely could have pushed back here.

    • notasugarhere says:

As I wrote above, one PA was only a temp to organize the wedding. If she thought that would turn to a full-time gig she was wrong. She made anti-Meghan comments on SM, destroyed her career, and now works as a night nanny.

      • anon says:

        It’s what she deserves.

      • notasugarhere says:

Looked it up. This Melissa person was the PA who was a temp hire for the wedding, didn’t get hired permanently, pitched a fit on SM. Hired as night nanny for Natalie Livingstone, wife of a billionaire property developer, and ‘contributor’ to the Fail on Sunday, Tatler, etc.

  32. Cee says:

They deny Kate’s use of botox and hair pieces so, no, KP, you always deny true stories and seldom deny any untrue ones.

  33. Beach Dreams says:

Lol…sure. For something that’s “just a rumor”, William (and Kate to an extent) sure did a lot of scrambling to suppress any mention of his name in connection to Rose Hanbury. He sure did a lot for Rose herself, from having his staff helping/protecting her to setting up a photo shoot with her just happening to be present at church (one in which he/Kate and Rose weren’t looking or speaking to each other even once). Oops, this was in response to a comment that now appears to be deleted.

  34. Loretta says:

KP and the royal family are disgusting. It must have been a nightmare to live there for Meghan. I feel so sorry for her.

  35. Izzy says:

Really? So Meghan’s affinity for avocado toast fuels wars and drought? Her son looks like a chimp? Her wedding flowers nearly killed Charlotte? GMAFB. Those awful things could have easily been refuted and they are as petty as the hair extensions BS, but… crickets for Meghan.

Kensington Palace, we see you. We see your racism. And we are coming for it. We will call it out publicly EVERY SINGLE TIME. Your time is up.

  36. Nev says:

    Chin up Duchess. Who cares.

  37. taylor says:

If Meghan is willing to tell her story under oath, the anonymous sources at KP, who have already revealed the disdain they had for her and are now openly admitting to leaking stories, should be willing to come out and speak their truth. But they won’t, because they can lie under the protection of anonymity and with impunity, and the papers will report it as the gospel truth. I’ll take the person who has something/everything to lose’s word over theirs any day.

  38. Prayer Warrior says:

Why is this only about KP? What about Buckingham Palace making a statement?? What about Clarence House making a statement? What about a statement coming from Windsor Castle??

Why is this only about Kensington Palace? Any one of the Royals could have spoken up in her defense. Why didn’t ANY of them and why is it suddenly only about Kensington Palace (where we know W&K reside and work)…???

    • ABritGuest says:

The period being referred to when she was pregnant when worst press started, when People article came out& when the Fail published her letter- was all when she was at KP.

      • Mary says:

I do tend to believe the reports, however, that Harry sought help from Charles and the Queen during this time and they refused to help.

    • Nic919 says:

The way the story is written it’s more about KP not defending her to the press, which would have been their job up until the press office split. Most of the stories took place before they fell under BP. That makes it worse because it shows KP was only there to defend the lazies.

    • RoyalBlue says:

exactly so, BP and CH allowed this massacre to happen under their watch. i am certain william had the blessing of the senior courtiers to act with impunity. charles stays out as he wants his hands clean before accepting regency. he took so long to remediate his own reputation, william can do the smears and take 20 years to remediate his own.

  39. TheOriginalMia says:

William just couldn’t resist directing his lackeys to deny Meghan’s truth. Nothing KP said disproves what Meghan testified to. They left her unprotected from the lies and rumors they gave to the tabs. Good Lord. The gaslighting is ridiculous.

  40. AMM says:

A 36 (at the time) divorcee from Hollywood had zero dirt on her. Zero. Even her ex husband was quiet. Her record was so clean that they had to attempt to pay a male porn star to say he had sex with her (and he refused) for some type of gossip. The best they could do was bring out her white trash family and a former employee who was let go when she became a royal. That was the full of extent of What they had on her. And now KP wants to say that she was a literal monster. That this allegedly social climbing, genius manipulator fooled everyone for 36 years and decided to let her guard down during the height of people reporting her every move? Bullshit.

And again, they focus on a single story with no context. The employee who was reduced to tears, just like Kate’s crying story. We know that Kate was crying about tights at someone else’s wedding, so I’m super curious about what the former employee was crying about.

  41. yinyang says:

The Royal Family CAN NOT be a part of the new world! Not only do they represent an old way of thinking of birth mattering more than character, but the way they treated a woman and and BIRACIAL woman to feel like she didn’t belong. The royal family should have ignored the rumours, forced Kate to play nice, forced William to be pictured with Meghan, allowed Meghan for the first year to stay beside not behind like a servant, allowed her a team as big and influential as Kate’s to help her, and allowed for an equal budget on wardrobe and expenses. In india there is a colourism problem, and this is exactly what it looks like, the servant are darkerskinned and has to wait and hand and foot for their whiter counterparts, this is so sad!! Meghan would have been the first biracial lady in the Royal Family and for her to come smartly meant way more than anyone else, even William, this was the RF’s defining moment to step into the now and they failed miserably. Never again, they’ve done too much damage. There is no second chance when it comes to this at this critical time. I’m done with this already dwindling institution. Thank you, next.

    • yinyang says:

And what the hell was there to deny?? Actions speak louder than words. If Kate and KP could have took the limelight off themselves for a second, A SECOND, and let Meghan have it, how much stronger they would have been. Kate had the limelight for the ten years before Meghan, and being married to the next in line, would have it for many years to come, she couldn’t give it to her sisterin law for a second?! MEghan it’s time to stop associating with that damn family. It’s going to be you who saves yourself, not KP, not RF, and not even Harry! You are who the world is looking at, we want you, not another white woman saviour, not the RF and it’s grotesque wealth. You are young and clever, stop associating yourself with the RF, they only hold you down from how great you can be. It’s time to get out there and build a name for yourself.

    • Liz version 700 says:

Agree 100% yin yang. They blew it on a world stage. They look like petty racist and stuck in the past. The entire Commonwealth should dump them with the same lack of grace they showed the first biracial Dutchess.

      • Lady D says:

Not going to be as easy as I thought to get Canada out of the CW. There are however, organizations trying to do exactly that here. Membership drive coming up.

      • blue36 says:

Yeah it’s harder for countries that are constitutional monarchies (like Canada, Australia, etc.) to become independent of the monarchy because of all the constitutional issues that would come up. But countries that don’t have the queen as a head of the state can leave easily – i.e. India, they have complete independence from the British and have their own constitution, being part of the commonwealth is just a membership for them so they can leave anytime they want.

  42. MaryContrary says:

I just keep thinking about their engagement interview when Harry naively said he was excited for Meghan to be able to be part of their family as her own was so small-or words to that effect. How awful and stressful for both of them to see how this all enfolded and to realize that not only was his family not supportive, they were actively working to use Meghan as a scapegoat for the press. I really hope they’re able to forge a full, happy life with great friends in LA.

  43. BL says:

I am so worried that this magnitude of stress is going to break Harry and Meghan. I really hope they are feeling a deep sense of relief from leaving the RF and starting fresh. Their world has been turned upside down and I hope they hold onto each other and grow together. Stay strong kids!!

    • MsIam says:

I think they will feel united against a common enemy. Harry must really feel betrayed by that bunch. They got him coming and going.

    • Beach Dreams says:

I understand the concern but if anything, I think they have to be feeling some relief from not only distancing themselves, but also having the truth of the situation come out (if only piece by piece). The usual circus of media hounds and tinhatters will twist and skew the information to suit their agendas, but facts are facts. More people are calling out how the RF prefers to protect criminals over a vulnerable pregnant woman. That’s something that dear Liz and her cronies can’t easily explain away, no matter how many distractions they throw out.

      • Ginger says:

Exactly. Their truth is slowly coming out and I’m sure that’s what they really want.
The haters are loud but only 1%. They have a lot of support.

    • Islandgirl says:

Prince Harry…..I feel so sorry for him. I hope he realises that with this doubling down they intend to survive at any cost….even if the cost is the very existence of he and his wife.
There is no bridge building here. They want him to be broken and to crawl back on bended knees…without his family because they intend to destroy Meghan and maybe him in the process.
      What a family!

      • Liz version 700 says:

It makes the suddenness with which they posted the Twitter escape message really clear. Harry must have realized his family was deeply at risk and they were fine with destroying his wife.

    • Vickie says:

I am in agreement with what Ginger indicated that the rage-spittle haters are a mere 1% and that the Sussexes have a lot of support. Unfortunate that one percent is the most vicious, bile- spewing lot imaginable. They are monsters on Twitter and tabloid comments sections with unimaginable disdain filled conspiracies and rumors. I would be interested to know how the overall British population as these groups seem to have an out-sized influence in comparison to their actual numbers.

  44. RoyalBlue says:

this royal family is the shame of all royal families. out of control, lazy, superiority complex, envious, spiteful and not afraid of showing it publicly, unkind, pathologically narcissistic and desperate.

after plotting to destroy a woman’s life, do they actually go to church and pray with humble hearts? if they are God’s representatives here on earth call me an atheist.

can’t wait until karma catches up with them.

    • Feeshalori says:

It’s always the hypocritical holy rollers who run to church most often to confess their sins and seek absolution. Then they repeat their vicious behavior, go back to church and the cycle continues. I’ve known people like this who behave abysmally during the week and yet they’re first to be in church in the front pew on Sunday morning. The RF is no better than these people.

    • Marigold says:

Agreed, as a Christian, it offends me to see a family so obviously refusing to live out Christian principles with each other…who then waltz off to baptisms and services and claim to represent the Christian faith of an entire nation while people gather to ogle their clothing while they walk to the church on holidays. It’s appalling.

Something about carrying the name of the Lord in vain.

I try–I really do–to keep my religious thoughts out of my celebrity gossip, but this is a family who claims to be head of the Anglican church. So, like a lot of politicians on both sides of my country’s government, they like to toss God’s name around when it’s convenient, and I strongly dislike it.

  45. Mina_Esq says:

How very interesting that “truth” was their response. Proving that a statement is true is an absolute defence to libel/defamation lawsuits, which the DM lawsuit is not (as far as I recall). This makes me wonder if there are more lawsuits in the works, possibly against some of those crotchety palace sources that the institution does want to protect 🧐

    • Mary says:

I would love to see Angela Kelly go down for the gossiping, racist witch I think she is!

  46. Lizzie says:

Wow. If it were me, today is the day I would contact a publisher and tell my own story. Schedule to be released one day after their ‘review’.

BRF are the lowest of the low.

  47. L4frimaire says:

Someone at the palace is feeling salty about a lawsuit against the Daily Mail. They sure know how to comment really quick when it comes to defending themselves and their underhanded BS. Why are they coming out swinging if they’re not the ones being sued? Also, Byline printed the legal documents that outlined some of these staffing rumors, and other exaggerations before the first hearing, including the fact that Melissa was fired, not resigned. Also if my assigned staff weren’t doing their job and leaking about me behind my back, would not want them there. We saw it, so don’t know why they’re denying what was obvious. Tatler even wrote about this with that awful MeGain article. Water getting a little too hot for some people now.

  48. Liz version 700 says:

I don’t know what the BRF thinks this will accomplish. So far, with me at least, the only Kate or William or Petty Betty stories I read are on here. I will never read any of the stories about the vipers in this nest again. No clicks from me DM you are just too gross. Charles knew Meghan would be trouble because he could see how badly she would make all of their lazy petulant a$$es look. This family/firm is emotionally and spiritually abusive and they specialize is sucking money from their subjects and the life force from their children/ married-ins.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I should also say I read every Meghan story by neutral press or Twitter.

  49. Sara says:

The more bitter Bill gets, the more unfortunate looking he gets. I said what I said. He honestly doesn’t look that awful in the top photo. Compare that to the Remembrance Day service this past winter. Hatred will eat you alive.

  50. paddingtonjr says:

Welp, I hope everyone’s happy with the BRF as it is, ’cause it ain’t getting any better. Why would H&M return next year, unless there are some major changes in KP and the BRF? What was it the BRF said H&M would miss? A family that not only doesn’t embrace or protect one of its own, but actively refuses to acknowledge Meghan and Archie as “Harry’s family”? Money with too hefty of a price? At the very least, Harry has inhertances from his mother and great-grandmother and will share in an inheritance from Charles. Meghan made her own money before; she may not have been a superstar, A-list actress, but she worked steadily for 7 years on a series (nothing to sneeze at) and has resources to continue to do so. H&M have absolutely no incentive to come back to this abusive situation and any return would be attributed to “William’s negotiation skills” or “Kate’s hard work”, neither of which would be true and H&M simply don’t need to keep up the charade anymore.

  51. Summer says:

The Queen and KP should have made a statement and taken up for Meghan. Her family has turned against her. Except her mother. I don’t know the ins and outs of that, but I do personally know what it’s like to have toxic family members. If you look at the big picture, Meghan hasn’t done anything wrong….from my abstract view. You can obviously tell that she and Harry are in love and Meghan didn’t realize what becoming part of the royal family would entail. That has to be pretty scary. After the wedding, she always looked nervous, I could almost feel her anxiety when watching videos of them all together at events. Like a fish out of water. That’s not her fault, I think she needed more time, but they weren’t allowing that?

    • Mary says:

if Megan looked nervous, and I think she did sometimes, with the Royal family, I think it may have been because she was being nitpicked by KP….constantly being told that what she was doing was wrong.

This reminds me of that stupid (pre-marriage?) lavender cookie story, that I believe, where Megan happened upon Kate on the grounds at KP and told Kate that she had baked some lavender cookies for the queen as a thank you gift and Kate rather snottily replied that she has the same tastes as the Queen and knows that she wouldn’t like cookies like that (because Kate would not like them).

I get the impression that, at KP, Meghan could do no right.

  52. Nic919 says:

Amanda Platell mentioned years ago that she was approached by KP to stop writing stories about how Kate was lazy as she was going to be Do C. Platell was told that it wasn’t fair that she wrote that and that Kate was dropping all her jobs “to prepare” for her role as the wife of a future king. Platell thought they were joking.

This was in 2010. Kate remains lazy and incompetent AF but Platell did stop those stories. But it is very interesting at how KP was looking to hide criticism of something real, like Kate’s laziness, but preferred silence when it came to racist attacks on Meghan.

    • Mary says:

Like when Emily Andrews was threatened, with at least loss of access, to drop a line of inquiry into the possibility of Kate having an eating disorder……

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Was it her that William cornered at an event and demanded she stop writing negative things about CEO Kate when she was still his beck and call girl? I recall reading about that – he was allegedly very aggressive toward whoever it was (can’t recall the name).

  53. HK9 says:

What and awful group of people to do that to her, and KP deciding as an organization to hang her out to dry. History will record their inaction for exactly what it us, racist and cruel.

  54. Alexandria says:

    Down with monarchy!!!

Meghan, Harry and Archie, run free. We root for you!

  55. Nic919 says:

With that photo on Ghislaine Maxwell and Kevin Spacey sitting in the thrones at BP I have to laugh because there are idiots trying to suggest that Meghan was unsuited for the job and meanwhile pedopholes are hanging about the palace. Great work British monarchy!

  56. boobra says:

she is really a joyous soul, isn’t she? i love that photo of her smiling in the white outfit while the others stand dully next to her. she really doesn’t let anyone or anything steal her sunshine. i wish her all the best

  57. blunt talker says:

I truly believe they were trying to make her miscarry during her pregnacy using the most vicious racist smears they could use. Meghan is a strong woman to have gone through this with the love and support of Harry. I do remember her father saying the royal family owes him-he should explain this remark. This was an organized and well-planned campaign against Meghan by the white, racist, ruling class. They did not want a person of color in their family and history will state this as the main reason. They put on a front about accepting her in the family to Harry and the media, but behind the scenes things were entirely different. No matter how many black children or people the royal family in England pose in pics for-everybody knows their true feelings. The Commonwealth countries should say we will work mainly with the Sussexes-if not we will move on to the European Union since your country has Brexited out of it. I know those African countries in the Commonwealth feel blindsighted about the British royals treatment of a person with black heritage. To say she deserved it because she is a brown person and they are lesser human beings-time to bounce.

  58. Marivic says:

@Nic19. How were Ghislaine Maxwell and Kevin Spacey able to sit on the Queen’s throne? Creepy.

    • Nic919 says:

Presumably they were there because of Andrew. I would be curious to know who released that photo. It reminds the non royal ass kissers where the real rot lies in the BRF.

  59. Feeshalori says:

This was during a BP tour for President Clinton. KS was Clinton’s guest and GM was PA’s guest. Should have been renamed the pedophilia tour.🙄

  60. Mary says:

Wow. The KP Gaslighters are really doubling down on this and saying not just that they would not refute what was true (which I guess, to them, means everything) but that Meghan enjoyed the full support of the firm.

Even Dickie Arbiter (former man in grey suit) had to join in and trash Diana as well, along with Richard Palmer, who is calling people stupid for not understanding why his tweets about the Sussexes not being supported (Oct 2019) and their having been supported (now) are not contradictory. SMH.

    • RoyalBlue says:
