Starting for Washington in this series opener is Tanner Roark (13-6, 2.87 ERA). He allowed three runs over 6.1 innings with three strikeouts and three walks in a no-decision Friday against the Atlanta Braves. The Nationals still won that game, 7-6. The Nats have now won nine of their last 10 games with Roark as their starter. Roark has now posted a quality start in each of his last five outings. Roark’s appearance tonight will be his 34th career start at Nationals Park. He is 16-11 with a 2.76 ERA as a starting pitcher in this venue.
Roark can’t do it all alone, though, and he needs the Nats’ offense to pick up the scoring slack against the Orioles. They looked sluggish in their 8-1 loss to Baltimore last night. The onus then is on the sizzling Bryce Harper to carry the cudgels for the Nats’ attack tonight. The right fielder is 10-of-32 over his last eight games with two homers and eight RBIs.
