Grant Posts Nation's Fastest 200 Meter Time at Great Dane Classic

| By:
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Junior Kiara Grant ran the fastest 200-meter time in the country on Saturday in her first race of the season at that distance at the Great Dane Classic.

Grant cruised to the win in a new Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex facility record time of 23.25 seconds, which also ranks as the second-fastest time in the world this year. It broke her previous indoor personal record by more than a second and puts her atop the Division I leaderboard.

Junior Malika Pride also ran well in the event, placing second behind Grant and setting her own PR of 24.32 seconds. That ranks as one of the top 20 times nationally.

Senior Martha Bissah had NSU's other individual win on the track. One week after winning the mile at George Mason, she took first in the 1,000 meters in 2:49.30. Teammate Kara Grant was fifth in 2:58.64.

Those four Spartans – Grant, Grant, Bissah and Pride – also won the 4x400 meter relay in a season-best time of 3:46.80. That ranks as the second-best time in the MEAC so far this year.

In field events, freshman Tynniesia Wilson placed second in the high jump in her first meet as a Spartan. She cleared 5 feet, 5 inches. Fellow freshmen De'Niya Gravely and Ameya Williams also finished in the top 15 in their events. Gravely was 12th in the triple jump (35-9.25) and Williams was 13th in the shot put (38-2.75).

NSU returns to action this Friday and Saturday at the Gamecock Opener hosted by the University of South Carolina.
