On Jan. 27, Habitat for Humanity of Denton County dedicated its 105th home to the Sosa family. About 70 people were in attendance, including past and future Habitat homeowners, the Sosas’ large extended family, and Dina Sosa’s numerous friends and coworkers. More than 150 volunteers helped build this home, located at 1028 E. McKinney St. in Denton. Past Construction Manager Ken Reedy, who managed the building of the home, handed the keys to the Sosa family at the ceremony. Dina Sosa invested more than 300 hours of her own labor, called “sweat equity,” into the building of her home.

Dina Sosa’s coworkers and friends from the Denton school district supported the family at the dedication. They collected furniture and other items for months and helped to furnish the entire home. Sosa has worked at Calhoun Middle School for more than 12 years.

Denton County magazine and DentonCountyMagazine.com accepts photos of goings-on around the county, namely events that benefit and serve the greater good of the county. We especially like to receive photos of nonprofit events. Email photos and a small writeup of the event to editor@DentonCountyMagazine, or email a link to a shared folder.
