Brock Osweiler has two years to show the Houston Texans he’s worth the money it cost to lure him away from the Denver Broncos.

The four-year, $72 million contract quarterback Osweiler agreed to Wednesday will pay him $37 million in the first two years that is fully guaranteed for practical purposes.

According to contract details obtained by USA TODAY Sports, Osweiler will make $21 million in 2016 in the form of a $12 million signing bonus, $5 million roster bonus due this month and $4 million guaranteed base salary. His $16 million base salary in 2017 also is fully guaranteed.

The two remaining years on Osweiler’s deal are not guaranteed: an $18 million base salary in 2018, a $4 million roster bonus that serves as a trigger in March 2019 and a $13 million base salary in 2019. His cap numbers are: $12 million, $19 million, $21 million, $20 million.

Judging off the average of the first two years ($18.5 million) or the full deal ($18 million), the contract puts Osweiler in line with other established starting quarterbacks, even though he has just seven NFL starts, all with the Denver Broncos last season.
