Try to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and if you must be outdoors drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as both tend to dehydrate rather than rehydrate the body. Also, check on pets that may be outdoors and the elderly to make sure they have plenty of water or a cool space to rest.
