There’s something wonderful about bath products. Bubble bathing your way to beauty and relaxation is a time honored tradition for women and men, too. Many of the products marketed for self-care can be expensive and it’s just as easy to make your own. With a little practice, you can make them pretty enough for gifting, too.

Bath bombs are a combination of oils, salts and baking soda pressed into a mold to harden into a round “bomb” for the bath. They are easy to make yourself with a few household ingredients.

Food coloring is optional but will make them a perfect gift item and turn your water the color of the bomb. Scents are created with essential oils. Mix oils for your own purposes and match colors to them.

Try grapefruit and lemon with yellow for a revitalizing bath or lavender with purple or blue color for bedtime relaxation. Pine scents for the holiday can be green and red. Experiment with oils to find one you like.

The recipe for any homemade bath bomb is very basic but the key is to add wet and dry ingredients slowly to avoid caking or sticking to the mold. You’ll need citric acid which can be found in the baking aisle at your grocery store and molds can be found in material list.

They will take several hours to dry properly so let the bomb molds sit overnight. Next day, prep yourself and enjoy a colorful homemade spa experience in the bath.
