Kevin Gleason will push as hard as possible after career-best qualifying in Macau

Kevin Gleason took his best World Touring Car Championship career result in qualifying at Macau. The RC Motorsport driver was sixth in the session, although he admits he was lucky some drivers crashed during the session.

“I was a little frustrated with the balance of the car and my driving before qualifying,” said the American to TouringCarTimes. “We made some changes and the car was better in qualifying, I also improved my driving and so it was good. We were also a little lucky with some cars crashing out.”

Gleason has nothing to lose and the fact that he loves the Circuito da Guia is an extra motivation to push to the maximum during the races.

“There’s a bunch of cars that are pretty untouchable ahead, but I’m quite close with the cars I will have around me. I’m sure it’s going to be a tough fight. Of course I want to keep the car in one piece for Qatar, but my intention is to push and give it my all. It’s Macau, I’m just thankful to be here and who knows if I’ll ever be able to race here again, so I have to give it everything.”

Gleason is happy with the progress he has made since the beginning of the year, when he was unhappy with his own driving.

“At the beginning of the year I was frustrated with myself and my driving, I knew I was not up to my potential. I think I have improved a lot, especially since the break, as I’ve always gone to Q2 and finished in the points. I’m happy and much closer to where I think I should be.”
