Airbnb booms, generating $50M for N.J. renters in 2016

Airbnb is growing in New Jersey, according to a report from NJBiz.

The company said the Garden State saw a 100 percent year-over-year increase in 2016, the report said.

About 257,000 people rented through Airbnb in New Jersey last year, amounting to more than $50 million in income. The company said there are roughly 6,100 active hosts in the state.

According to the report, a typical unit is rented out 44 nights per year, with the average length of stay at 4.2 nights.

The company said the largest market is in Jersey City.
