The new book from Arizona's Red Means Stop Traffic Safety Alliance is not fiction. The writers, who are from Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma, Washington and elsewhere, tell their own account of how a driver behind the wheel of a car ran a red light and left their families broken forever. They share their personal story to protect drivers and their passengers today from a similar tragedy, and to remind elected officials of their responsibility to safeguard our streets every day.

"Our intent with this publication is to provide real-world victim stories about those lost or forever changed in these types of crashes. T-bone, angular crashes are catastrophic in nature and are preventable," said Red Means Stop co-founder Frank Hinds, who helped start the organization after losing his teenage daughter to a red-light runner.

"If we all followed the rules of the road and stopped on red, there would not be a need for this book. We believe that by sharing our stories, we can create safer roads and reduce these types of crashes so that no family has to endure the grief and hardship of having a loved one killed in a vehicular crash."

Carelessness Is No Accident is "dedicated to all innocent victims of traffic crashes whose lives do matter and who are not simply statistics." The book, released by Farabee Publishing of Chandler, Arizona, features life lessons about the consequences of red-light running, distracted driving and driver responsibility. It also includes comments from members of the Phoenix, Chandler and Gilbert police departments in Arizona. Above all, it is a call to action that can no longer be ignored by the public. Drivers, pedestrians, decision-makers and community leaders are urged to look at this horrific driving behavior from the survivors' point of view.

Hinds' own story is a part of the book. His daughter Jennifer died in Glendale, Arizona, the fourth most dangerous state in the nation for red-light running fatalities from 2009-2013. After his tragic loss, Hinds set out on a mission to educate the public about the needless deaths occurring on streets in Arizona and communities everywhere.
