First date jitters? Butterflies doing a salsa? Or you’re dancing the salsa and petrified of having two left feet?

Have no fear, essential oils are here!

Feeling generally relaxed can be achieved with authentic lavender essential oil. It’s important to choose the right lavender, both in quality and type. Look for lavandula angustifolia specified on the label. If it doesn’t give you a botanical name, put the bottle back on the shelf. All authentic essential oils will make it clear on the label.

Diffusing lavender while you’re dressing is a great way to get its benefits without it overpowering the fragrance you’re wearing on your date, which could happen if you rub some behind your ears.   By diffusing instead of applying, you’ll also avoid the risk of lulling your date to sleep with your aromatic influence, which is never a good look on a first date!

Follow lavender with Young Living Present Time™. Because when you’re face to face with someone who might be the next love of your life, staying firmly in the now is essential. Whatever past relationships you’ve had, they should stay behind you. There’s a great quote that goes something like this: your rear view mirror is so small compared to the windscreen because it’s better to look forward than back.

Actually, no matter who you’re face to face with, romantic interest or otherwise, being present when you’re with them is guaranteed to make you both feel more special.

When applying your perfume or aftershave, hopefully it’s a natural signature fragrance you’ve created from essential oils. (Please click here for our Guide for the Impatient Perfumer). If you’re still using a commercial fragrance, a top quality one might include some essential oils but it’s also a cocktail of synthetics and additives best minimised.

Let’s say you decide to wear an oil blend as your fragrance straight from the bottle. Here’s a list of Young Living oil blends with amazing 100% natural scents that will help you to feel confidently relaxed and open to discovering what makes your date’s heart sing. Because life comes alive when you are true to what makes your heart sing.

  • Citrus-woodsy, exotic, comforting Stress Away™ notes of lime, vanilla and ocotea (aka by native Ecuadorians as ‘false cinnamon’)
  • Floral-citrus, romantic, uplifting Joy™ notes of bergamot, mandarin, rose, jasmine
  • Floral-oriental, delicate, calming Harmony™ notes of Royal Hawaiian sandalwood, angelica archangelica, geranium
  • Herbaceous-woodsy, balancing, unisex Believe™ notes of Idaho balsam fir, bergamot, ylang ylang

Menfolk, don’t be backwards in coming forwards with trying the floral blends listed above. Think of them as your fragrance equivalents of pink and purple shirts. Let your masculine energy work its own charm on them and you’ll be surprised how they work with each other to come up with something unique to you.

But if you need time to get used to that idea, here’s another blend for you to consider.

  • Spicy-herbaceous, energising, fresh En-R-Gee™ notes of rosemary, lemongrass and black pepper (apply to the back of your neck, forehead and wrists; dilute with a smidge of carrier oil first)

Relax and have fun. It’s not a race. Well, not unless your date is leaving on a jet plane in the morning.

Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.

Not all oils are created equal. Far from it. Quality varies immensely, so please ensure you are choosing a brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living. Discover why we love them so much in this short video.
