What to do on results day!

It’s coming. Results day is coming. Whether you’re in As or A2, both results have defining fates. But what do you do on this day, after you collect your results? Well, I’m here to answer the question. So, you may want to know this information to make sure you’re completely aware of what you’re “supposed to do”, or because your teachers vaguely explained what actually happens on a results day (I know mine did -_-). And you’re like me and want to make sure you know everything there is to know about results day. Well this is it, this is What to do on results day.

As Students
Firstly, if you’re an As student; As results are important -very important. These aren’t your overall grades, but they contribute to your final grade. What you get in As is an almost 100% accurate prediction as to what you’ll get next year. These grades mean everything to you right now, okay. However you can make positive choices after you receive these grades if they aren’t of satisfactory. So two outcomes;

1)Good results? Great results? Got what you need? Feeling like you’re going to be successful? — Super well done to you kiddo! If no one says it, I will; I’m seriously proud of you. You’ve obviously worked hard for this and you deserve it along with the successful years to come in your way.

2) Things didn’t turn out as great? Don’t feel like success is in your favour? Life let you down? Thats okay, okay? This was me. But it’s okay to be sad, it won’t last forever. Because these are your options. (Some of these I or someone I’ve known has done.)

a)Repeat your first year (only if you definately want this, are allowed, and have done badly in several subjects, yes this means an extra year but trust me, no one cares).

b) Retake exams next year alongside A2 exams, this is what I did. I repeated a module of As psychology and As sociology. Difficult but can be done, just remember to revise constantly months before the exam, up to the exam. Get help from whoever you can, and attend retake classes if possible.

c) Repeat the subject. Let me explain this with a story, in a2 Psychology I met a wonderful girl named Saira, she was incredibly smart, organised and kind hearted. I hope she’s doing okay, and that she’s succeeding at her goal to graduate an economic student at an amazing university :). But anyway, first year she did good in all of her subjects except psychology. So she repeated As psychology, and did the other 2/3 subjects at a2 level. Came back third year to do the a2 in psychology, and passed with flying colours.

d) I had 2 friends who changed college after first year and and repeated it in a different colleges, one is now in one of the top 20 universities in the country (A Russell Group University), I’m not sure of the other but I surely hope she is happy 🙂 They are both lovely, wonderful, strong women ^_^

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best of luck and keep reading as for many of you, next year this will be you!!!!

A2 Students: I’m not gonna stall, imma stick straight to the point because you need to know what to do and what not to do!!!

Do’s:

  • Wake up when UCAS releases the uni acceptance/rejected letters, log into UCAS and see your status. Accepted in your course? YAY. Accepted on a different course or wrong uni or rejected? Don’t worry now, worry later, go in and get your results ASAP.
  • Be there as soon as the gates open for students collecting results.
  • Collect your results.
  • If you’ve not been accepted on your desired course or uni, look at your results and highlight, mark or circle your overall grades -not subgrades. Get you ucas number in hand and go to an it suite, or home to a computer if its not to far.
  • If you want to do a different course/different uni/not been accepted, reject any current offers you dont want -now you are in clearing.
  • List all the unis with their courses that you’d like to attend with their Clearing phone numbers.
  • Call them asap. They’ll ask your grades, ucas ID, and what you want to do. Either they say “okay”
“this course is full but a similar course is ___”
“you don’t have the grades but a course you could do is___”
or “you dont have the grades”.
  • No decent offers yet? Take a gap year(working, going travelling, volunteering etc) and apply again next year, still no? Try a foundation course of your preferred subject.

WHAT NOT TO DO:

  • Pick up your results late, as picking them up late you are calling universities late, and at this point most of their courses are already full up because of the millions calling into clearing.
  • Contact Uni clearing numbers late -Seriously. LOADS of people are panicking and trying to get places as soon as possible, if you don’t beat them to it -They will have the place you wanted!!
  • Decide not to go through clearing. It’s worth a try, okay? Trust me, you could get a good opportunity here.
  • Panic overload. STAY CALM. Now that you’ve read this post you know what to do, so don’t spend your valuable time panicking right now. Start calling clearing numbers and try find yourself a good university doing your course or similar. Don’t be afraid to take the foundation route, it’s very common for us gap year students you’ll find tons of us there!

I wish you all the best of luck, and remember bad results aren’t the end of you. I came out with results that were highly affected by my poor mental health, and now I’m going to one of the best Universities in the country after a very recovering gap year. Stay hopeful and optimistic. Where there is a will, there is a way ❤️ Good luck, if you have any questions contact me or comment below, or if you wanna discuss anything about your results or results day feel free!

Thanks for reading!
