Vatican spokesman raps Trump for criticizing Pope on immigration

Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican's chief spokesman, has fired back at American presidential candidate Donald Trump, who criticized Pope Francis for speaking out about immigration.
Speaking to reporters in Mexico, where the Pontiff was to celebrate Mass on the US border, Father Lombardi rejected Trump's charge that the Pope was being "very political" by raising the issue in Mexico. He observed: "The Pope always talks about migration problems all around the world, of the duties we have to solve these problems in a humane manner, of hosting those who come from other countries in search of a life of dignity and peace."
The papal spokesman reminded reporters that Pope Francis has spoken frequently about migration in Europe. This, he added, is something that "Trump would know if he came to Europe." That line appeared to be a direct rebuke to the Republican candidate, who had complained that the Pope "doesn't understand the problems our country has."
