STAY: Our Favourite Dog-friendly Places to stay in Wales

What would a dog-friendly holiday to Wales be without a pawsome place to stay with your pet? We’ve sniffed out the top dog-friendly places that both you and your pet will love…

Red Kite Barn, Powys

redkitebarn

Set within 80-acres of beautiful hills and woodland, this dog-friendly cottage – which featured on Channel 4’s Amazing Spaces – is ideal for a cosy getaway with your four-legged friend. We love the upside-down layout with the bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor, and the living room and kitchen at the top. This unique property features a mixture of rustic beauty and sustainable modern elements with exposed stone walls and a super-efficient German wood-burner.

Bow-wow Factor: Furry friends will enjoy running around the cottage’s private woodland. And they will love the underfloor heating!

Things to do: There are miles and miles of surrounding National Trust moorland to ramble around, and the Black Mountains are within driving distance.

The Corran Resort & Spa, Carmarthenshire

corranresortspa

This gem of a dog-friendly hotel is hidden away in the marshlands of Carmarthenshire and is ideal for a short weekend break. A former 16th century farmhouse, you and your pooch can spend the days wandering the coast and exploring the surrounding woodlands. After, whilst Fido relaxes in your room, you can make good use to the hotel’s exceptional spa facilities. Massage anyone?

Bow-wow Factor: The dog-friendly rooms all have their own enclosed garden area – perfect for stretching Fido’s legs early in the morning.

Things to do: Only a short drive from the coast, you and your pooch can enjoy walking along the local beaches. Sea dogs will love splashing about in the sea! The Towy estuary is also great for a dog-friendly day out.

Llys Meggyd, Pembrokeshire

llysmeddyg

A former Georgian coaching inn, Llys Meggyd is now a luxe dog-friendly retreat with a restaurant and chic rooms set within a to die for location – the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park! From beaches and headlands to rivers, woods and mountains, all are but a bone’s throw from the door. After a day exploring the surrounding area, you and your canine companion can sit in the Cellar Bar or kitchen garden and enjoy a hearty, well-deserved meal.

Bow-wow Factor: Set within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, pets will be spoilt with fabulous places to sniff! The enclosed garden is also lovely on more chilled days.

Things to do: As well as the many fantastic walks you can enjoy from the door, Newport Beach is a short drive away and dog-friendly all year-round! Make sure you pack a picnic.

The Groes Inn, Conwy

groesinn

This inn is definitely one of our top dog-friendly hotels in Wales! Located just outside Snowdonia National Park, this rustic hotel and restaurant has awe-inspiring views, comfy bedrooms and award-winning dining. It’s a firm favourite among the locals!

Bow-wow Factor: All four-legged guests will be provided with bowls, blankets and biscuits, and they’re welcome to join you for breakfast and dinner!

Things to do: This is a fantastic spot for a walking holiday with your hound. Snowdonia, Llandudno and Betws-y-coed are all nearby.

Llangennith & Rhossili Scamper Holidays, Swansea

scamperholidays

If you want a truly unique way to explore and holiday on the Gower, Scamper Holidays have a fabulous selection of luxury dog-friendly lodgings. Stay on either their Llangennith or Rhossili base, and then you can choose from a range of timber tents, camper domes, shepherd huts or tiki-lodges. Canine companions will love being in the great outdoors, and all of the lodgings are suitable for summer holidays and winter breaks!

Bow-wow Factor: Resident West Highland Terrier Woody will be around to greet and show new furry guests around. Plus, your pet will be provided with bowls, a blanket, toys and treats.

Things to do: As both bases are near to the coast, there are lots of wonderful dog-friendly beaches nearby. A few of our favourites include Rhossili Bay, Swansea Bay and Whiteford Sands. The seaside village of Mumbles is also nearby and marks the beginning of the Gower Peninsula’s coastline. A must-visit!
