Winter’s here in Delhi and right on cue, The Gig Week is back for another 7 days of fabulous gigs! Now in it’s 6th edition this week long music festival will feature 22 righteous artists at 7 of the top live venues in the capital. This yearly festival always manages to do a good job of curating the freshest independent bands and artists over lineups that adhere to a specific genre each day. So whether you’re a rock n roller, an acoustic lover or a bass head, there’s at least one gig for you. For a true blue live music lover (like yours truly) this year they’ve outdone themselves and, TBH, there’s enough reasons (for me) to attend every single day.

Here’s why we’re so excited:

Gig 1. Body rocking to SKYHARBOR!!!!

There’s really no better way to start off with a body-rocking bang! And that’s what The Gig Week 6.0 kick-off gig promises. Prog-metal pros, Skyharbor, local mathcore heroes Kraken and and The Yatin Shrivastva Project play out a huge night for the Delhi metal scene at antiSOCIAL Hauz Khas Village on Saturday, the 10th of December. It’s been a while since we saw Skyharbor at homeground – they’ve been busy with two long form sold-out tours of the UK and USA over the past year and a half. As one of the few Indian bands to have a solid International fanbase, this homecoming is going to be heavy AF! Click here to buy your tickets and here for more information.

Gig 2. Night out with fresh tunes

Fresh off her reality show, The Stage 2, win, Sharvi Yadav will be joined by fellow singer-songwriters, Josh Menon, Mali and Gabriel Daniel to make a cool lineup for a gorgeous night out under twinkly lights. If you love pretty voices and soothing pop melodies, then click here to get your passes for Sunday.

Gig 3. Jazz grooves to lift your mid-week blues

Nothing like a mid-week visit to your local watering hole. The Piano Man Jazz Cafe (in Safdarjung Enclave Market) has a very honest and organic vibe – it’s warm, comfortable and the music is usually really good. The Gig Week 6.0 hits this spot up for Gig 3 on Tuesday for a jazz and latin themed night. Revista Do Sambo, Aditya Balani and Luiza & Pedro are bound to get you on your feet and moving those hips. Plus, some liquid courage to face the rest of the week is always a good idea! Click here for more details.

Gig4. Chai, Spuds and Cheese!

A lineup featuring pop-bands, Spud In The Box, The Family Cheese and When Chai Met Toast, besides sounding like a perfectly #lit breakfast is actually going to be one super fun live gig. These three bands have spent the last couple of years hard at work, released great albums and EPs and are taking their live sets that one extra step up every gig they play. The city’s going to love the funk that all 3 bands have got in store at Gig 4 on Wednesday at Bandstand (Aurobindo Market). Click here to know more.

Gig5. Ska! Ska! Ska!

Double Cross by The Ska Vengers
Double Cross by The Ska Vengers

For the uninitiated, Ska is a cool mix of reggae, punk rock and dancehall. If you’re new to this fun genre, there’s noone better than The Ska Vengers to help get you acquainted. Their version of politically outspoken, dub and jungle laced ska-punk will get you hooked from the start. Accompanying them at Gig 4 on Thursday (at Lodi – The Garden Restaurant) are two bands who are notorious for their infectious energy –  The Fanculos and MOSKO. If you like dancing, jumping, twerking and everything in between, then click here to set a reminder for this one!

Gig6. Indie hip-hop on #fleek

Indian Hip-Hop is on the rise and how! Beatboxing, and b-boying has had it’s time and now they’re making way for all the new gang of desi rappers. Gig 5 at Summerhouse Cafe (Aurobindo Market) will feature American-Indian rapper and performer, RAJA KUMARI, homeboy MC Prabh Deep and his crew with a cool opening set by Diplomats of Sound. This is your chance to join the new revolution so don’t miss this Friday gig. Click here to get your passes yo!

Gig7. The Fusion Finale

Delhi loves it’s fusion bands and its amphitheatre gigs. The Gig Week combines these two to make a fitting Dilliwala finale. Advaita, Aswekeepsearching and The Hansraj Projekt close out the week on December 17th at The Ashoka Hotel Amphitheatre. On paper this looks like it could be all kinds of epic, so click here to get your tickets right now!

Be it music, fashion or business, Delhi’s got a real close-knit indie (read: independent) vibe that always needs some loving. So head on out there to support your local heroes and find something new to groove to.
