Home Design Tips - 8 Effective Ways to Make the Most of a Small Kitchen

They say that the kitchen is the heart of a home and it’s no doubt that it is one of the most important places in any home. That’s the small factory in the house where most delicious meals are made. The size of the kitchen doesn’t matter, as long as you have the space to store all your food, cookware, and everything else related. Your kitchen can be the smallest room after your bathroom, but it’s the place with the most items are kept. However, it’s harder to plan a small kitchen so if you don’t organize and store them well, you will have less space, so every part of the room has to be perfectly planned.

Here are eight effective ways to help you make the most of your kitchen space.

1. Build a Stainless Steel System

When you want to take advantage of your vertical space, there is nothing so convenient like building a stainless-steel system that you won’t have to break a bank for. You can use the system to hang most of your kitchen stuff such as pots and pans. You can move all the things from the shelves and rail to the stainless steel shelve and hang the cookware, and utensils on the loops. That arrangement makes your kitchen look fantastic.

2. Try Shelving

Be smart and look beyond the obvious options. Is there some remaining space on the wall? In the cabinets, is there a lot of room? You can take advantages of those spaces and build a shelving system that can help you in your time of need. You can also build a modular unit that can be accessed from both sides. For the shelves, apart from adding more, change the kitchen cabinet doors to shorter ones to make sure they take the least space when opened.

3. Use Your Oven For Storage

You probably have limited space in the shelves and cabinet, and you don’t know whether you should store everything else on the floor. Find some good riddance in another way rather than the cold floor. You know the idea already! Whenever the oven is not on use, you can use it as another cabinet to store your pastries. The manufacturer didn’t say you shouldn’t.

4. Use the Space Around the Fridge

Every kitchen with a fridge has this space where you can put a hundred things, and they fit well, if you do it smartly. You can build a cubicle like structure around the fridge as long as you don’t interfere with the front. Use that space on the sides to store canned goods and other no-perishable items.

5. Use Drawers

You can build more drawers higher than your head and reduce the number of cabinets. With drawers, you can access most things effortlessly while cupboards can occupy space and are untidy because they are usually rummaged. Things pile up in the cupboards, and before you know it, there is no space left. Leave a few cabinets to store bulkier items and ones that can break easily if they fall.

6. Make Your Own Pantry

If you don’t have a pantry in your house, look for an old wooden wardrobe from Craigslist or eBay. Use it to store all your dry goods like grains, beans, pasta, canned goods, tea, coffee, and baking items. You can also store coffee pots, extra baking dishes, and baking thermometer. You will have more space than you needed.

7. Create a Storage in a Nearby Room

The nearby room can serve as extra storage for your kitchen goods and items if the space in your kitchen is not enough. You can store items especially the ones you don’t use regularly. You can use a curtain to keep the items out of sight.

8. Organize Things By How and When You Use Them

Store all your items and ensure that the ones you use more frequently are closer. Goods like your spices and oil can be stored near the sink. Your plates and mugs should be stored near the dishwasher to be more reachable.
