Brutal cold grips Upstate NY: See how bad it was near you (chart)

Syracuse, N.Y. -- It was a bitterly cold morning in Upstate New York.

Watertown was officially the coldest spot in the lower 48 this morning at 37 degrees below zero. The wind chill was minus 45.

The official temperature in Syracuse was 23 below zero, making it the eighth-coldest day since 1902. It also set a new record for Valentine's Day.

The coldest spot in Central New York, though, was Otisco, with 27 below zero.
