Tuesday is expected to be a snowy day across the Mid-Atlantic states, according to AccuWeather.com.

The more potent of the two systems bringing snow to New Jersey this week could drop up to 6 inches on parts of the state by Wednesday morning.

While there are various flood and winter weather advisories in effect across the state, South Jersey is expected to receive the brunt of the snow.

Flooding might be the biggest issue as communities vulnerable to back bay flooding could see water spilling into the streets, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow should begin falling by late morning in South Jersey and early afternoon further north. Very little fell overnight with many areas getting nothing.

While Salem County and parts of Gloucester and Cumberland could see as much as a half-foot of additional accumulation on Tuesday, the northwestern corner of the state is likely to see less than an inch, the NWS says. Warren and northern Morris should receive 1-2 inches while forecasters say a broad swath of the middle of the state between Hunterdon and northern Ocean is in the 2-3 inch range.

Thundersnow is also possible, the NWS notes.

This morning's commute should be free of weather-related trouble, but the evening's ride home as well as Wednesday morning's trip to work might be impacted.

The winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Though there shouldn't be any more accumulating snow later Wednesday, show showers are possible through the day. It's likely to be windy with gusts of more than 30 mph.

Temperatures turn sharply colder by Thursday with highs only in the upper 20s under sunny skies. Overnight lows in the teens are likely.
