The shuttered Hillsboro Village Harris Teeter on 21st Avenue will reopen next week as a Kroger.

The store at 2201 21st Ave. S. closed in June when Harris Teeter exited the Nashville market. It was a strategic move by parent company The Kroger Co., which acquired Harris Teeter for $2.5 billion in 2014.

Kroger completed extensive renovations over the past eight months to the 25,000-square-foot store on 21st Avenue. The store will open at 7 a.m. on Feb. 17 with a ribbon cutting planned for 9 a.m., according to a media release. The first 300 customers at the store will receive a free package of Simple Truth Natural Boneless Chicken Breasts.

“Our staff is excited about the grand opening festivities,” store manager Matt Uhles said in statement.  “We have a beautiful store, and we are looking forward to serving the students and customers in this neighborhood.”

Features of the store include a made-to-order pizza station; fresh sushi; salad bar; made-to-order sandwiches; a meat and seafood department; natural and organic offerings; a floral shop and a pharmacy.

The new store will employ about 120 people.

Along with the Hillsboro Village location, Kroger opened in the former Harris Teeter at Westhaven Town Center in Franklin in December and the company is completing a major remodel to the former Harris Teeter at 210 Franklin Road in Brentwood with plans for a spring opening. The existing Kroger a half-mile away from the former Brentwood Harris Teeter will close once Kroger opens in its new location.
