Man allegedly beaten by adult son dies from his injuries

VENTNOR - Authorities say a South Jersey man who allegedly was beaten by his adult son has died from his injuries.

Ventnor police confirmed Wednesday that Michael Nelson died on Tuesday night. But they have not disclosed what sparked the attack or when it occurred.

The 60-year-old city resident had been hospitalized with head and body injuries since he was found late Sunday morning on the living room floor of his North Derby Avenue home.

Nelson’s 30-year-old son, Thomas, has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief. He may now face upgraded charges, but authorities say a decision has not yet been made.

Thomas Nelson remains jailed on $50,000 bail. It wasn’t known Wednesday if he has retained an attorney.
