Toyota is bringing its latest off-road trims to the 2017 4Runner.

You’ll be able to choose between the TRD Off-Road and the TRD Off-Road Premium, both of which are geared towards heading off the pavement.

Both of these trims come with unique looks, provided by black painted wheels and TRD Off-road badges. On the inside, a carbon fiber look covers the center console, the floor mats have TRD Off-road embroidery and red “TRD” lettering is stitched into the headrests, though the stitching is only for TRD Off-Road Premium models.

So what actually makes this 4Runner good in the mud? Mostly it is computer systems. First is the Mult-Terrain Select, which tailor’s the vehicles driving for different types of terrain. An electronic-locking rear differential is fitted along with Crawl Control, a system that maintains the vehicle’s speed, allowing the driver to focus on wheel placement while off-road.

Toyota’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System can also be had, adding extended wheel travel while moving at slow speeds.

The 2017 4Runner is available in six different trims and will launch later this year.
