Man charged with assault at Vineland gas station

VINELAND - A 22-year-old Merchantville man was arrested after a fight over money Monday escalated into an assault with a baseball bat, police said.

About 11 a.m., officers were dispatched to a USA Petroleum gas station in the 1400 block of West Landis Avenue for reports of a fight.

Matthew Hall was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault and two weapons offenses related to the use of the bat.

A former employee, Tyreese Tucker, 35, of the 7000 block of Ackley Road in Millville, and Hall got into an argument over money Tucker said he was owed.

Hall allegedly struck Tucker in the head with a bat, according to police reports.

When Tucker tried to get into the car driven by his friend, Ashly Hannah, 22, of the 1100 block of Columbia Avenue in Newfield, Hall allegedly hit the vehicle’s passenger window, shattering the glass.

When Hannah pulled away from the gas station, Hall struck the vehicle’s rear window, police said.

Hall was charged and released on summonses.
