A prayer for watchfulness

May we watch for you, O Lord, in the storm, in the earthquake and in the fire; lest in the stillness of the silence you go undetected. Amen.

Based on 1 Kings 19:11-12

A prayer that we share the gifts of God

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for those treasures we have from you – the gifts of different resources, wisdom, understanding and compassion. Encourage us to be willing to share those gifts and not to hide them away. As we journey through this connexional year help us to be truly present in the light and dark of our own lives so that we can encounter your presence with us. Through our personal experiences and discipleship may we also be willing to share the light and darkness of those we are called to serve in our different communities. We pray in the name of Christ. Amen

A prayer for light from God

In the darkness of your world Lord, I need your light. When I am worried about paying for my heating; the mortgage; the food I will feed myself and my family, I need your light. When I am feeling concerned about the health and well-being of family, friends and strangers, I need your light. In the hours I am in most need I seek you and find you in the food banks; the warm spaces; the cards, emails and telephone calls I receive; the smile and friendly greeting that is unexpectedly given as I go about my day. In those moments, Lord, I find the hidden treasure of hope, peace and love that helps me through another day. Amen.

"But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knitted together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body's growth in building itself up in love". (vv. 15-16)
