What’s the difference between social housing and supported housing?

What is Social Housing?

Social Housing homes have rents linked to local incomes and provide affordable housing options for people in the area.

Social Housing is provided across the South West and South Wales areas we cover by Housing Associations and Local Authorities.

Social Housing provides a more affordable housing option than renting in the private rental sector and often gives a more secure and long-term tenancy.

What is Supported Housing?

Supported Housing covers accommodation provided alongside support and supervision services, to help people live as independently as possible in the community.

Support services within the Supported Housing sector can include Mental Health or people with a learning or physical disability.

This support can also be given to people who have had drug or alcohol addictions, people who have been homeless, and people with experience in the criminal justice system.

Supported Housing and associated services can also be given to young people with a support need, the elderly, and people fleeing from domestic abuse.

Supported Housing is provided in the South West and Wales regions by Housing Associations, Charities and Local Authorities.
