EHV-1 in Arizona: Two Unrelated Cases Confirmed in Maricopa County

The Arizona Department of Agriculture has confirmed two unrelated cases of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) in Maricopa County horses, the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported May 11.

In one case, a vaccinated 23-year-old Quarter Horse gelding exhibited neurologic signs of disease before testing positive on May 7, the EDCC said. He is recovering.

The gelding has no travel history over the past four weeks and has been quarantined at his home facility. The EDCC said two horses at that premises are considered exposed
