Jaindl Waterfront development heats up in dead of winter

Rome wasn't built in a day, and Jaindl's Waterfront development won't be either.

Their 26-acre site along the Lehigh may not look like anything but the Jaindls say development has already taken place, like eight miles of conduit underground, as well as curbing, sewage and storm water -- everything you need to have done before ground can be broken this July.

That broken ground will include a 5-story luxury apartment building along with a parking deck. The expected completion date is in 18 months.

On Wednesday, Zac Jaindl announced they've snagged a tenant for 120,000 square feet of space in their 6-story office building. Construction will begin there as soon as the lease is signed.

The three buildings located along the Lehigh River and inside Allentown's tax-friendly NIZ make up phase one of the 15-year plan.

"Designed and driven to draw millennials and a number of people to the city of Allentown and specifically the waterfront," Jaindl said.

From a waterfront location to a downtown bank vault, Jaindl also announced a May opening date for Vault 634.

In addition, renovations to the Hamilton Street Gilded Age style event center with a basement speakeasy already started in September.

"It'll be very authentic, you'll have the hardwood floors, backlit bar, special side entrance, you name it," he stated.

From Center City to the banks of the Lehigh, downtown development is heating up right in the dead of winter.
