Iron Man Mark III (Dark Asylum)

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Tell me about it, well better to use a high heat gun those go over 1200 degress much better for plastic shaping, but yes I use 2 different vacuum former machines 1 holds a 4ftX4ft sheet and is about 3 1/2ft deep and a smaller 32inX24in by 1ft deep machine for smaller or more detailed parts and it heats up and forms the plastic over molds designed to with stand high heat and 350lbs of pressure.

Note: there are no stupid questions.

Hu..thanks :$

mmmmm Then i do have another question thow : What are you putting on your modls so they wont ..."melt?" :confused

Is it long to shape it? Do you have to wait till it cools down, or are you doing something special about it? (sorry to annoy you with all that but i'm extremly curious...-_- )

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Wow, that's great! Will the chin open up on the new helmet? And how large of a head will it fit?

The chin and face are seperate pieces so it can be optioned to open with the face plate, I didn't bother to do so for mine cause the chin opened only one time in the movie, rest of the open face scenes only the upper plate opened, same thing with the new IM2 trailer only the face plate opens on both Iron man and war machine from what I've seen but it can be done.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

wow that looks really good, are you able to see out of the glowing eyes?

Yes you can, I sculpted my own lenses they are clear cast resin with LEDs in the top as to light up the resin the back side and inner vision slots are painted white to reflect and block light from escaping into the helmet and then painted flat black, so light can only be seen in the front and inside the lenses.

For the molds I biuld them out of strong wood ultrical (concrete) and at main details are done out of Aves epoxy sculpt, it only takes about 7-15 minutes to heat the plastic and takes about 45 seconds to cool during forming, it's not super hot but can burn skin easy.

It's cool, if you got any questions no biggy, thanks for the interest.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Wow, the helmet looks great! Can't wait to see the rest of the suit finished, great job.

thanks, it wont be painted by me so I don't think the colors will be the same as I use but I'll post the primered suit in full when done.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Out of curiosity, what process did you use to create the old helmet, I guess what I'm asking is what it's made out of ect. Are you using the same for the new one you're working on? You mentioned you're not doing the paint on the suit, are you going to have your v3 helmet painted by the same person so that they match?

Anyway, like I said before great work, keep us updated on your progress.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

OK, things are still coming along ok, I'll post my simple tutorial on forming parts I did this yesterday in my spare time so don't tell me the photo quality sucks, cell phone is all I had either way you get the idea.

6 parts for a helmet, the molds are all like this so they con be resized larger or cut smaller for any one and this allows for more custumizing options, and animatronic features. Note: the finished helmet is not the newest version changes were made to the molds that are not on the old version but it's a good example.

And please if you have any questions or comments please personal message me cause I'm about out of post and need to use what I have left to update in the next little while.

Thanks.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Wow very nice set up and great work on the Iron Man suit!

What did you use for your vacuum former platen? With that many holes do you have trouble with having enough vacuum draw?

Re: New iron man suit in the the works
