Decision-making in standard developing organisations for the internet
Date and time
Location
West Midlands European Centre asbl
22 Oudergemlaan 1040 Brussels BelgiumDescription
We are delighted to invite you to our first project workshop on decision-making in standard developing organisations (SDOs) for the Internet in Brussels, held on Tuesday 25th April.
Event information
This workshop is part of a three-year ESRC project investigating decision-making in SDOs with no state involvement.
The programme starts with a Plenary Session that focuses on internal decision-making processes in the W3C and IETF.
The workshop is then split into two break-out sessions. The first looks at how external actors, namely the state (national/international regulatory restrains) and civil society, affect SDO preferences.
The second break-out session covers current standard debates, specifically: solutions for the mobile web; open standards and patented software; and security and privacy.
The aim of the workshop is to explore decision-making as a process and focus on different approaches and actors rather than technical detail. The findings of the workshop will be summarised and distributed to participants post-event.
Further details of the programme can be viewed on the webpage.
Registration
The event registration is by invitation only. RSVP using the 'Register' link on this page.
*Please email Francesca Farmer, F.Farmer@exeter.ac.uk, to indicate which break-out session you would like to attend. Places for the break-out sessions will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis due to space restrictions.
Please do not hesitate to contact Francesca Farmer by email if you require any further information or if you wish to register without using Eventbrite.
