Duchess Kate endorses & launches the BBC’s Tiny Happy People platform

US Senate Committee on the Judiciary Business Meeting

I remember hearing a few months ago that the Duchess of Cambridge was keen for the lockdown to be over because she really wanted to refocus on her Early Years initiative. It was funny because she dropped Early Years like a hot potato as soon as she had an excuse to lounge around and do a few Zoom calls a week. It was also funny because if she actually *wanted* to do some work with offering support and help to parents with young children, the lockdown would have been the perfect time for it, with so many parents home and dealing with their kids 24-7.

Anyway, now that lockdowns are being lifted around the UK, Kate actually *did* do something around early childhood development. She’s endorsing the BBC’s Tiny Happy People platform, which offers resources, advice and support to parents of kids under the age of 4. You can see the Tiny Happy People platform here, and yes, I do have REM’s “Shiny Happy People” stuck in my head. Kensington Palace’s announcement included this:

The Duchess of Cambridge has been involved with #TinyHappyPeople for a number of months, having visited the Tiny Happy People team last November to take part in development sessions and to learn more about the production process Building construction

Last week The Duchess of Cambridge met families involved in the creation and piloting of #TinyHappyPeople — and spoke with them about the ways in which they have used the resources, and how they have seen their children’s language and communication develop as a result.

Recognising the significance of the project to supporting parents as they guide their children through the earliest years of life, The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will collaborate with the BBC as they continue to develop and roll out #TinyHappyPeople.

[From KensingtonRoyal Twitter]

*shrug* It actually sounds like a good thing and a good platform and like it will actually help parents of young children. Which is how you know that Kate had very little to do with it! She would never spearhead something so substantive and helpful. What she’s doing is merely endorsing a program which had already been in the works, and had already been organized and achieved by other people. But now it’s Kate’s thing and I expect we’ll see a lot of People Magazine cover stories and Vanity Fair exclusives about how Kate did this all by herself because she’s truly so keen.

Fashion notes: Kate’s polka-dotted dress is Emilia Wickstead, and it retails for £1,500. I feel like we’ve seen her in like 20 new dresses during the pandemic?

Kate’s got a prerecorded interview on the BBC this morning. She actually seems quite jazzed about this but her accent could cut glass.

I look forward for the updates around here mostly because of Kaiser insane talent at picking the BESt ( worst) pictures of these people.

I mean, Kate just seems to be in the middle of a strange transformation, from frog to Princess Charming ! Her face is so crazy!

EDIT: Is it just me or since the Sussexes left, is Kate making sure to be photographed/ interact with children of color more frequently?

    • Phuggi says:

I feel like I’ve noticed that too, the children of color thing. Remember when right after Sussexit, Kate was visiting some children’s something and they had this Black girl front and center to give her flowers? Not to say she didn’t interact much before, but I do feel it’s been exceptionally blatant and tokenistic after.

    • MadamNoir says:

Hi, Priscila I’ve noticed that too about both of them especially her all of a sudden constantly being photograph with people especially children of color, but didn’t want to say anything. It can all be just a coincidence.

      • Priscila says:

@MadamNoir thanks for getting my name right 🙂 lol
I am glad at least three people agree with me—I was worried I was being unfair.

      • Tealie says:

i saw that too! they always try and photograph her with black people ever since Meghan left lmao, they’re not even being subtle about it! 😭😭

    • Nic919 says:

It has become more obvious for the last year or so. Tokenism at its best with that family. Just don’t be a person of colour with opinions in that family though otherwise the media is free to attack at all times.

    • yinyang says:

YEp, noticed that too. But she picks and chooses when she wants to be photographed with black people, it’s not like she hires them because she really doesn’t want to be pictured with them all the time, that way she can still juggle her white supremicists fans and win over everyone, smh. The royal family will see to it that the heads will always be white and black people can be there once in a while not a constant presence as you can see with Meghan.

    • PrincessK says:

Getting a black couple of parents was SO obvious….l somehow doubt if they were from anywhere nearby to Sandringham or even Norfolk.

The parents sounded more natural and relaxed than poor Kate, she was so awkward stumbling over her words and repeating the same thing. But she neatly side stepped the question of how children can put a strain on your relationships. Old Kate didn’t want to go on record empathising with that one did she now?

The Fail is saying that this is Katy’s new initiative. It is not she is just endorsing it, and her people and the BBC went to a lot of trouble to dress up part of the Sandringham garden like a film set for a children’s programme.

    • Peony_Wise says:

Wanna bet this ‘endorsement’ was launched today because Keen and KP wished to compete with Meghan DoS’ powerful speech to young women and girls at the Girl Up Leadership Summit earlier today? Naturally.

Although of course, Keen Katie is nowhere close to being able to compete with any strong, self-possessed, self-confident women who are comfortable in their own skin. Plus, as Kaiser points out, Top CEO wannabe Kate, really had nothing to do with putting this project together. She’s just latching onto an initiative that’s already gotten off the ground, and which seems like it might be beneficial and successful in the long term.

That’s the same modus operandi for Will, e.g., his ‘saving the environment’ contest was only set up for him to hand out awards to scientists who do all the hard work, which by association, he can then take some positive p.r. credit for supporting.

  2. Sofia says:

I agree. This actually sounds like a nice thing. Seems like a cute and interactive way of helping kids. So right up her alley. I hope she continues to have projects like these in the future aka projects with more substance that actually help the people it’s aimed at.

    • Peony_Wise says:

It’s fine for Keen Kate to work on childhood initiatives like this one. I still double down on doubting any of this is based on Kate’s ideas and directives, since she has been proven not to have any without receiving guidance from other experts. And certainly, not without her necessity to channel and cosplay those who have more substance, ideas and unique personal style.

It’s the heavy-handed way the British tabloids lay the Keen Kate p.r. shtick on so thick. We are always being told how we should view Kate. Telling us and selling to us shouldn’t be necessary. If she actually had depth, substance and ideas, we could see it without having to be led and convinced at gunpoint, as if we’re blind, deaf and dumb.

      • Nic919 says:

Her interview showed how little she can speak on the topic. She mumbled away saying nothing of value.

  3. starryfish29 says:

I get that early childhood is supposed to be her ‘thing,’ but does her staff realise that there’s more to it than being photographed hanging out with kids?

  4. Tanguerita says:

I think the dress is on sale now, for something closer to 500 pounds which is still 400 too many.

    • janey says:

LOL, I got something remarkably similar in Asda for £15 quite recently!

    • Mads says:

I know realize why this woman likes polka dots prints and things like the Elie Saab blue textured dress she wore to Royal Ascot. They are buttons all over her. Buttons everywhere. Her patronages should lure her with a jar of buttons.

Sorry, it’s hard for me to take her seriously. Especially after the plane stunt.

      • Lady D says:

“lure her with a jar of buttons,” is absolutely hilarious, Mads. Too funny.

      • Yvette says:

What is up with these polka dot dresses?? My goodness, this look is not flattering on the Duchess. Over the past couple of months we’ve seen Kate in tiny polka dots, medium polka dots, large polka dots, and ‘mixed’ polka dot dresses. I find this fashion choice very matronly on her, and it emphasizes her bone-bare frame (perhaps someone told her the look is slimming on her, which she doesn’t need).

This look is severe, but not nearly as severe as when she wears polka dot dresses with her hair pulled back exposing her narrow head and neck. And I’m not dissing her looks just for the heck of it or in a mean-girly way. I actually think that Kate is very attractive. But this is 2020. ‘Matronly’ no longer starts at 40–and she has 2-years to go to reach that age. Pick it up, girl!

      • Tealie says:

loll ‘lure her in with a jar of buttons’ i bet if you rattle them near her, her ears just perk right up lol!

    • Meg says:

400 too many lol lovin the shade

      • Peony_Wise says:

LOL re the overdone polkas. Kate is doing the Diana cosplay again with her dots fetish. Even Diana didn’t wear them that often within a short period of time. Diana was always unique and elegant in her 80s style trends.

If Kate weren’t such an obvious mean girl, I might have more sympathy for her predicament (caught between comparisons with Diana & Meghan, lol) and not having any truly unique style or ideas of her own. Let’s be honest, not even Kate’s accent is her own. Tee hee.

  5. Belli says:

Has she been involved with it for months? Or did she do something with it a few months ago and then recently? The two are different.

Still, maybe this is the way to go for Kate. Endorsing existing projects is less effort, but could also give some very worthwhile organisations the platform they deserve. She doesn’t have to set up something completely new herself, as much as we hear she’s keen to, and she doesn’t seem to have the initiative to do that, so maybe that’s a way she could use her position for good.

    • Becks1 says:

I think its the latter (she did something a few months ago and then did this recently.) If she was doing more than that we know it would have hit the court circular.

And I agree – she doesn’t have the initiative to set up and carry out new projects, and that’s okay, she just needs to be more proactive about endorsing things that people have already set up and bringing attention to the projects that way.

    • Jay says:

I agree, I just hope she makes an effort to ensure those who came up with and ran with the concept get recognition. Maybe she could interview or highlight some of the creators/researchers on her social media?

    • ArtHistorian says:

Yeah, this is the standard operating procedure for most royals and there’s nothing wrong with it. She really should just stick with being a patron for various organizations – and then show up more regularly. It is embarrassing that she didn’t have contact with one of her patronages for 8 years! This is actually a small goal that she can work on because I do think that there is something going on with her behind closed doors.

I guess that she and her team felt compelled to re-cast her image as the big doer when Meghan entered the scene because Meghan operated in a different way – putting together targeted project with tangible results fairly quickly. Kate is not the same and that’s OK. But trying to present herself as if she is just as dynamic and result oriented as Meghan is, IMO, a big mistake – because it is all smoke and mirrors with Kate, she simply doesn’t have the follow-through like Meghan – and she’s setting herself up for failure and the public for disappointment when she can’t follow through.

Her Early Years project has been hyped up for years now – with very little to show for the hype. And that doesn’t look good for anyone who pays attention. However, it looks like the Cambridge PR strategy is very much predicated on people not paying attention but just picking up the hype – like William “thinking” about going back to flying ambulance helicopters (but not following through) or Kate being very keen about some big vague project.

They are not entrepreneurs like Meghan and Harry, trying to look like they are through PR but never following through is just a bad look.

      • Becks1 says:

Agree 100% ArtHistorian. They aren’t doing her any favors by trying to follow Meghan’s lead. Trying to force big projects on her and then never following through just makes her look worse. She could be more like Princess Anne, pick up more patronages, visit them regularly, bring attention to the fundraisers (she doesn’t have to organize them herself), etc.

But it seems like KP is trying so hard to emulate Meghan and Kate just doesn’t operate that way, for whatever reason, and that’s okay in itself. I don’t operate like Meghan does. I’m not good with big ideas etc.

Its why more and more I think that Princess Anne’s comments about reinventing the wheel were aimed at the Cambridges – they are forgetting the bread and butter royal events that Anne does so well (and so frequently), in favor of trying to be something they aren’t.

      • BayTampaBay says:

I have always said the “bread and butter” royal events were the most important because it gives the royals “grass roots” contact with the largest number of people.

Kate seems to be very good at “bread and butter” royal events so that is what she should do and do it quite often.

Anne does not work in the same manner as Charles but she does work. Kate does not have to work in the same manner as Meghan but she does NEED TO WORK much more often keeping a regular schedule.

      • Nic919 says:

I feel like Anne was critiquing the Cambridges as much as the Sussexes. She’s the sister of the future king who will never get the crown and she consistently makes hundreds of engagements whereas the FFK and FFQ can barely crack 100 and none of their engagements are any more in depth than what Anne has been doing. William used the excuse of being more in depth to get out of work more, but it never panned out in substance. And Kate isn’t smart enough to speak on any issue in depth even with the talking points provided by her aides.

      • Betsy says:

It’s true – she’s just not Meghan, and she doesn’t need to try to be. All she needed to do was do bread and butter events more often. I don’t think anyone would have faulted her for being lazy if she’d been doing those all along. Meghan just shines, and that’s okay too, or would be if William and Kate weren’t insanely jealous.

Will and Kate should have put in the work, just put their heads down and worked. It would reduce about 80% of their issues.

      • Peony_Wise says:

Agree with ArtHistorian, Becks1, BayTampaBay, and the overall sentiment that Kate and KP are so off-base with the desire to try and ‘compete’ with Meghan and how Meghan approaches her substantive projects. Stop trying to compete, because it’s impossible.

Kate needs to stay in her own lane and find her own comfort zone. She needs to learn how to be comfortable in her own skin. I guess that’s too hard with an over-interfering, competitive mother having directed her ambitions for her entire life. Plus, if being shy and homebody lazy and going on shopping sprees and digging in at home with your kids is more her style, she married the wrong rich guy. But we already knew that, and we have known for awhile. Apparently, Kate didn’t know it, and she still seems ignorant of it, because her head is still screwed up with the big shiny FFQ prize, which ain’t all that. Wearing shiny tiaras and sequined ballgowns can exact a heavy toll, especially when you need those glitzy things to define yourself.

Meghan told us and she’s showed us, she only needs herself to define who she is in the world. Meanwhile, Keen Kate needs Carole, PWT, the KP gray men, mad buttons and polka dots galore, along with a crazy accent, a hyena smile, and lying tabs and disreputable royal reporters. Blimey!

      • Peony_Wise says:

        Quoting @Becks1:
“It’s why more and more I think that Princess Anne’s comments about reinventing the wheel were aimed at the Cambridges…”

Who knows really. Probably Princess Anne was referencing the Keen Cambridges more. Based on her public interactions with Meghan & Harry, Princess Anne appeared to comfortably engage with Meghan. Since Anne is known to be tough-minded and no-nonsense, I think she at least respected Meghan or she wouldn’t have engaged with her so easily in public.

Princess Anne has never been known to suffer fools. I’ve seen no evidence that Anne has ever paid much attention to W&K publicly. During the 2019 Easter Sunday video, Princess Anne sent Wills a stark glare while they were all waiting for the Queen’s arrival. This while Harry purposely ignored Will and spoke laughingly to Kate.

    • Ginger says:

This is how I see Kate going forward. With Meghan gone, she doesn’t have the pressure to launch any new projects. I don’t think she ever wanted to.

She will endorse existing projects and get praised to the high heavens for it. It’s a win win for her.

    • notasugarhere says:

Short answer, no. The BBC created a project on their own. KP got wind of it, Kate showed up to pose for photo ops in another bland, expensive, waste of money dress. Much like the garden project. Pose, lather, rinse, repeat.

      • Nic919 says:

Even better the BBC showed up to sandrigham so she barely had to step out of her home for the photo shoot.

That reversed C block bothers me. You would expect more precision for a staged photo op.

      • Becks1 says:

I wonder if she has said she’s not going back to London for a while – the kids will start school again in September but I wonder if she’ll even keep them home from that? But at any rate, I bet we don’t see her at any London events until September (this is their usual “summer break” don’t forget, I don’t see them really making any attempt to skip that….)

  6. S808 says:

Not sure what’s going on with her hair but this maybe the one of her 235872358834 polka dot dresses I don’t hate on sight.

    • manda says:

I feel like a side part would have been better with all this fullness. I sort of like the fullness, but not the middle part

The dress is nice. But $3000?!?! It looks like something that you used to be able to buy from the Vickie’s Secret catalog, back when they sold clothes. That is, it’s really nothing special

    • Cidee says:

I can’t stop staring at the hair. I believe she thinks she looks like Jaclyn Smith circa 1979. She’s sadly mistaken. Cringe-o-Rama.

  7. Aurora says:

Why does she hop to endorsing new projects instead of working to keep her existing patronages from closing? It’s all about the photo op for her.

    • Züri says:

Exactly. This seems like a great project, but again, not something she initiated. She’s tacking herself on to another seemingly sure thing that required no work from her beyond the optics…and the new hair, dress, and ever present mismatched espadrilles (I love espadrilles, but she rarely manages to match them to what she’s wearing). As ever, focus is on the superficial and not the substantive, because it’s something she sorely lacks.

    • Chrissy says:

Exactly. Like the Art Room. And BTW, her hair looks ridiculous and she’s drowning in that dress. Such fluff….

    • notasugarhere says:

Key word ‘working’, Aurora. Why show up, dig in, and WORK when you can just pose for shiny new photo ops with the people who actually do all the work.

  8. Ariel says:

I’m beginning to think she’s a stepford wife. That smile.

  9. Florence says:

THP has been online for a while (there are some very funny parent stories on there, about their kids’ weird habits etc). Seems to me that someone savvy realised this has legs and shoved Kate into a prominent figurehead role. All she has to do is make some children laugh on a photo shoot and boom, new dress, new hair and new (?) sacklike wedges! Well done Katie you smashed it.

  10. Emily says:

Kate is totally involved! She visited them last November!

  11. Becks1 says:

So it sounds like she went to an event for this in November and then did this appearance? It’s a good idea in general and the appearance last week seems appropriate -social distancing, etc.

But, I’ll say this is where the constant embiggening of Kate works against her. She’s being praised for this like she came up with the idea and like she is the greatest role model for parents everywhere. If her fans (or KP, or the various royal reporters) left out a lot of that extra praise, it would be fine, because this is what she should have been working on for the past several months.

Anyway, I don’t actually hate the dress, I have some similar, but I don’t like it with the wedges and I don’t like the length (it looks pretty long to me, I could be wrong). This would have been a good opportunity for her to wear a nice pair of pants with a pretty summer shirt. Notice that the high necks are back though.

    • Marjorie says:

They’re going to keep her covered up so we don’t get a repeat of the rib cage photo from the sunflower-killing event.

I may actually start feeling sorry for her…

      • Becks1 says:

Those were my thoughts exactly Marjorie. I do actually feel sorry for her, if she is that sick. And to me, making an effort to cover her up again tells me that people in the Cambridge camp were paying attention to the talk about that appearance and are trying to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

      • Calibration says:

I’ve said a few times she’s doing a Karen Carpenter. Not to be disrespectful, I adored Karen in the day, but she scared me then and I’m seeing it with Kate now

      • ArtHistorian says:

It has been noticeable for a while how she’s swimming in these very conservative schoolmarmish dresses. I think there’s something serious going on with her, probably an ED. If that is indeed the case then I wish that the BRF would emulate the Swedish RF who asked the press to back off when CP Victoria suffered from anorexia, get her help and keep her out of the spotlight to give her a chance to heal.

      • Prayer Warrior says:

huh? I don’t remember any pictures of her rib cage. She was wearing a dress…? A pinky-bluey thing, if I remember and beige closed toed clogs, or something…I don’t remember ribs…just went looking….got it, I think….referring to her chest, right?
Yes, her chest if very bone-y….

      • Nic919 says:

        “Sunflower killing event”. 🤣🤣

      • Becks1 says:

@PrayerWarrior -yes, her upper chest was very bony – and we have seen her in other dresses before that show that part of her chest and it did not look like that.

@ArtHistorian – yes, I think the BRF should set an example here – Kate’s personal business is her personal business, but she is praised so constantly for her looks and how thin she is that I think a simple statement saying she is struggling and asking for privacy would go a long way – like they did when she had HG with George and then her subsequent pregnancies.

The tattler article and the follow up articles about it also made it clear, in my mind, that people around her know what is going on.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The BRF have proven again and again – with Diana, Meghan and (I strongly suspect) Kate – that it is bad for your mental health to marry into this family. This is an extremely dysfunction family that has produced emotionally stunted people for generations – and I think that the senior staff (courtiers) have had way too much power over their royal employers in a way to goes beyond simply aiding their bosses in their public roles. The family and the entire institution is toxic and I think it hits the married-ins really hard because they are just expected to fall in line with a toxic system that has no regard for the individual and their mental health.

      • Starkille says:

I am Certainly no fan of this woman but Kate has always been quite thin. She is not “swimming” in the dress above, it’s quite dorm fitting at the arms and bodice and she looks fine. Just because the UK has a 60% plus obesity rate (yes, I know the US is higher; doesn’t negate the fact that UK is high as well) doesn’t mean everyone in the UK is fat.

      • Lady D says:

Slim. She’s usually been slim. Slim people have muscle tone. She’s not slim anymore, she is thin, underweight, or skinny, pick your adjective.

      • ArtHistorian says:

Kate has become more and more thin ever since she married into the BRF – and yes, she’s looking increasingly frail, nowhere near as healthy as she once looked.

      • Becks1 says:

No, Kate has not always been THIS thin, and I think its dangerous to push that narrative. She crossed into really thin around the time of her wedding, and has gotten slim again between babies, but the past year her weight loss has been noticeable.

It has nothing to do with the rest of the UK. I’m not comparing Kate to anyone else, except Kate.

      • Lizzie says:

Sadly, if there is an issue with Kate then KP will never ask for privacy for her since they continue to skewer Mehgan because of her request for privacy for Archie. Every time Meghan appears in public the stans go crazy pasting comments saying ‘I thought she wanted PRIVACY.’ It’s a real trigger for them.

      • Jaded says:

@Marjorie: Covering up is what anorexics do to hide their thinness. This whole thing is very triggering for me because my sister died of eating disorders many years ago and every time I catch a glimpse of Kate’s scary weight loss it brings back all the horrible memories. She needs help.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate did not have a bony chest when she wore the off the shoulder white dress at the Bafta a while back. She is objectively skinnier than in the past and she was already slim as it was.

Clearly the courtiers and the family makes things difficult and for those who don’t push back like Meghan and Diana, they become stunted in their development as adults. Kate is not a fully formed adult at 38 and all the PR in the world cannot conceal that she doesn’t have the basic skills someone in her position should have. Diana struggled with eating disorders, but she was more than fully capable of giving speeches and understanding issues a decade in, and this is despite all the issues she had with her health and her marriage. With Kate we have a constant infantilization by the media who praise her for simply leaving the house and saying a few scripted words. It’s not normal at all and really shows how the firm is a massively dysfunctional institution.

      • Cynthia says:

You’d think with Diana’s history of ED’s William & the BRF would have recognized the (blatantly obvious) signs in Kate years ago & got her the help she needs. This problem became apparent with the pre wedding dramatic weight loss & has gone on for years. What the hell is wrong with this family? Think of the internal damage (osteoporosis) mental health implications…😩

      • yinyang says:

With the ED she’s been getting better press than ever before, her fans love her for it, stupid men idealize her for it, Britian is paying attention at her for it, so theres no end in sight, this is the way things will be for her.

  12. Noki says:

That is a really nice colour for the summer and fall, looks good on her.

    • Lady D says:

You think black is a nice colour for summer?

      • Nic919 says:

I notice the smelling salts are not pulled out by the media for the black dress and the crossing legs at the knee as they were for someone else.

      • notasugarhere says:

Nor for spending 1500 on yet another near-identical dress in the midst of a pandemic and global recession.

      • Noki says:

        @Lady D I meant the hair colour.

      • Lady D says:

Okay, sorry Noki:) I just couldn’t figure out how black fit into green and glowing summer. I much prefer her with the darker or black hair. Like Angelina she just looks better with dark hair, to me. Even now, I think she would look better with darker hair.

    • Tessa says:

      The dress is dowdy.

  13. Calibration says:

I just can’t the facial expressions, the expensive fugly dress, the spray tan. I mean come on! And now totally new hair. Where is the common sense?

Meanwhile, Sussexes actually breathe and they’re being pilloried for not caring about the pandemic. Ffs these people

    • Tealie says:

I really can’t believe that address was almost £2000, i could find the same thing in M&S for under £50 😳

  14. ABritGuest says:

This sounds like a nice initiative from the BBC and ties up well with Kate’s interest in early years so totally type of thing she could front. Shows again how the survey was a waste of time when the research has already been there & there are existing initiatives she could throw her support behind.

KP claimed again that Kate has been working on early years for 8 years. Hmm ok. I agree with ArtHistorian above- Kate has her own strengths& royals aren’t exactly expected to spearhead initiatives so doing the bread and butter engagements and actively supporting her charities should be enough. She doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel& come up with initiatives like whatever Broken Britain is meant to be so she looks like she’s had projects like Meghan.

However I almost feel sorry for Kate. Meghan came& had successful projects& was being named in outlets like Times for being influential. Now I suspect the palace AND press want Kate to emulate Meghan’s impact which may explain those headlines about how it’s Kate’s time to shine. Pressure is on.

    • notasugarhere says:

Where does ArtHistorian say Kate has strengths? Her comment points out that Kate is lazy, has no follow through, and isn’t an initiator or power player like Meghan. That the best KP could do is just let her show up for photo ops as the ‘patron’ of things, make her show up far more often, and stop expecting her to do anything of use.

    • Belli says:

KP is rewriting history if they’re claiming it’s been a focus of hers for 8 years.

The first time I remember early years being mentioned as one of Kate’s interests was a bit after the incredibly overqualified Caroline Quinn joined her staff, which was only in 2017.

      • Nic919 says:

Becky English brought out broken Britain on the Friday before Meghan’s cookbook was launched. Once they realized that there was a problem with the name broken Britain they changed it to early years. I still think none of this would have ever happened if Meghan hadn’t entered the picture.

  15. MurphyBrown82 says:

Whoever has taken over her PR is doing a great job to be honest. It’s more focused and getting her a lot of positive feedback.

    • Tessa says:

I think it’s the same old same old. The person who took over her PR has not corrected the excessive hand waving, the “posh” accent, and the over exaggerated expressions. I don’t think she gets “a lot” of positive feedback. The same people on blogs who overpraise whatever she does (some accompany the praise with a dig at Meghan) won’t change at least for now

    • Alexandria says:

Beg to differ. There’s still no focus for her. She’s getting good press because the RR owe her for the exchanged leaks and the RR and courtiers want Meghan to look bad in every way so the PR is always to embiggen Kate until it sounds ridiculous. Not for this event though.

Like others said above, she should stop trying to be Meghan and be more like Anne. There is nothing wrong with hundreds of routine bread and butter ribbon cutting events. A boring King and Queen Consort is a nothingburger.

I really try to avoid talking about her physical looks previous to this post, but here goes. As an aside I think the alleged ED, stressed face, forced laughter, can be due to her aging but not being known for much achievements and still not being accepted by the aristocrat crowd, William’s infidelity, and the stress of having to keep the horrible RR happy. We already know the leaks come from KP. Her guilt is chipping off at her. I will drag William in, he looks aged.

    • Beach Dreams says:

A lot of positive feedback from who though? Her fans and royalists tend to be the only groups who have anything nice to say about her. At best, her “efforts” are largely met with indifference and at worst, mockery.

  16. taylor says:

She looks great. The hair color is really pretty, though the styling is a little dated, and her dress, which she definitely has in various colors and prints, is cute. She looks like Crown Princess Mary. Kate’s “good coronavirus” continues.

  17. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

    She looks crazed.
    Thanks for the earworm, Kaiser.

  18. aquarius64 says:

A couple of things to note on this promo for this engagement:

Meghan speaks at the UN Girl Up summit today July 14 .

Ghislaine Maxwell’s arraignment is today July 14.

Both events and dates were announced in advance. Coincidence?

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Interesting, esp as the event actually happened last week – they have previous for doing things like this. Doing ‘secret’ engagements and then dropping it on days where the Sussex’s have stuff going on – it sad and desperate and they still won’t get the same coverage as either of the Sussex’s. No matter how hard they try.

      • notasugarhere says:

Obvious PR is obvious. Meghan is DOING, Kate has to be seen showing up and posing.

      • Nic919 says:

Only the UK will bother to cover this. The rest of the world will focus on Meghan’s speech, which puts these shallow mumblings shame. And it kills them that Meghan has the reach and Kate never will.

      • Peony_Wise says:

^^ Exactly! Ditto @Digital Unicorn, @notasugarhere, and @Nic919. I noticed this too and I made similar comments to yours in response to earlier posts in this thread.

It goes back to what @ArtHistorian, et al, said about ‘trying to embiggen Kate’ in order to compete with Meghan, being a very wrong strategy by KP and the Middleton crew.

    • Becks1 says:

Those were my thoughts as well aquarius. At first I thought – “well, there is going to be overlap between the two couples and that’s just how it is and its fine” but then I realized this event actually happened last week.

      • Nic919 says:

They are in denial if they think anyone but camb stans care about what she says on anything. Why they set Kate up for embarrassment and failure I will never know. Clearly the world is watching Meghan’s speech today and it will be well delivered and not a bunch of poorly researched and mumbled talking points.

  19. Digital Unicorn says:

CEO of Keen Inc. has always always been about the PR photo ops – in fact her whole family is. They are all photo ops and ZERO substance. At least her ‘keen and interested’ game face is getting better. GF needs to lay off the spray tan/tanning beds.

    • Nic919 says:

The reddish hue in her new dye job clashes with the orange tones of her excessively tanned skin. She should either keep it dark or add blonde hues.

    • kelleybelle says:

I disagree 🙂 I think the keen and interested/enthusiastic faces are way overdone, and have been such since Meghan left. I don’t find any of her “enthusiasm” to be genuine at all. her scope and interest doesn’t involve anything beyond kids. It can’t because there is none there.

      • Tealie says:

Neither, especially when you realise that no one is ever laughing around her when she does that awful fake grin in photos, i really don’t know why she does it

      • Beach Dreams says:

Yeah, it’s like she’s trying too hard (well, she always has) and it’s becoming more obvious with each outing. I really wonder what’s going on behind closed doors. You’d think Kate would be loving this new setup of “working” from home and making an occasional appearance. But she’s dropped even more weight, which I didn’t think was possible for her, and she just looks unwell in general.

  20. smee says:

Her new “bronde” hair and those layers/bangs and all the exaggerated facial expressions…(I know she’s trying to engage children) seem…too try hard. MM shook her

  21. Molly says:

Kate is like a Kardashian in her shamelessness. A year of experts meeting at KP, the “landmark” survey, and all of that dropped now. We saw the real Kate when the charity worker pointed out she hasn’t visited in 8 years and Kate seemed amused rather than embarrassed.

    • Tealie says:

I agree, that was so appalling, idk how she wasn’t more embarrassed, especially because you can tell she has had no contact with them at all, since they are counting a ZOOM call as a ‘visit’ 😳

  22. Harla says:

Nope, just nope! Her complete lack of support for her sister-in-law during her pregnancy and after giving birth as completely undermined anything she now has to say about maternal well-being and mental/emotional health.

  23. Nyro says:

I actually like this polka dot dress on Ofwilliam. I think a shirtdress silhouette works well for her. And it looks like something Michelle Obama wore would have worn as First Lady. It’s a fun pattern, good for an engagement with kids. Her hair looks weird tho.

  24. Nyro says:

What is her accent? Because, as an American, I swear to God I can barely understand a word this woman said. I’m not exaggerating. If the captions weren’t there, I’d miss like 80 percent of what she’s saying. People keep saying it’s posh but I understand the queen and Charles perfectly well. So does she have a speech impediment or something?

    • Becks1 says:

My understanding, based on other posters here, is that it’s a fake posh accent, hence why it sounds so forced and awkward. I thought that I just didn’t understand British accents, but I’ve never had an issue before and I watch a lot of British TV and I can always understand everyone, so I realized the issue wasn’t me.

    • Florence says:

Brit here – she’s trying her interpretation of an affected posh accent.

From my experience, at university a lot of new money girls speak like that, often paired with upspeak and sounding light and ditzy. Kate sounds even less intelligible because she doesn’t breathe properly and sounds nervous.

Old money can sound like they’re pushing their vowels out from between pursed lips, but they never sound anything less than direct.

      • Nyro says:

I see. Charles sounds extremely posh to my ears. Almost like a parody. And yet I still totally understand every word. Ofwilliam needs to speak with her real accent. I don’t know where she’s from but her natural accent can’t possibly sound as terrible as this.

      • Dee says:

You can search for videos to hear Pippa speaking. She doesn’t sound like that.

    • PrincessK says:

Kate had elocution lessons and it shows, she is talking in a fake accent and she is not comfortable with it, and this is why she has problems with speaking naturally. The poor girl went through all this to be accepted by the royal family. I think she has been told to ditch the fake acquired accent to a appear more natural but she can’t. Her siblings and parents do not speak like that.

      • Tessa says:

she needs a skilled acting coach to get her to stop the hand waving, and overdone expressions, A good coach could also help her with her speech.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

I think she had elocution lesson at some point but she had been mimicking (and badly) William for years – she pronounces words the same way he does. The way she always mirrors him is scary.

      • bamaborn says:

That picture of her walking behind Wills, picking up fowl he had blasted out of the air, told me all I need to know about any self initiative this lady might have.

      • Tealie says:

Yes i agree, it’s very awkward and fake. You can tell the vocal positioning in her pronunciation isn’t comfortable in her mouth, which is why she stutters a lot to correct her form.

      • yinyang says:

It’s probably no big loss as she probably has nothing of substance to say anyway. A lot of her American (probably redneck) fans probably have no clue what shes saynig but think she’s intelligent and refined due to her british accent, and in the same breath insult and dissect everything Meghan says.

    • Peony_Wise says:

^^ Really, that’s awful. A terrible image to contemplate altogether!

A British member here once said that Kate’s normal accent is a mix of Home Counties and Anglican (which I know nothing about).

The problem for Kate is that she tries too hard to mask her normal accent with posh-speak, and she fails miserably. Add in Kate’s innate shyness in public, her lack of self-confidence, paltry conviction, and inability to speak off-the-cuff, and you end up with her mishmash garbled speech, breathless incomplete sentences, and unoriginal thoughts.

Kate doesn’t have a bad voice tonally, but she has shown no ability to use her voice effectively. That’s the case on so many levels, unfortunately. Plus, it’s not as if she couldn’t find experts to help her, if she would dig in and apply herself. She should just drop the excessive attempt at posh-speak too, because it reeks of insecurity.

I’m reminded of Crown Princess Mary’s calmness and commendable effort in learning to speak a new language. At the same time, Mary admitted her anxiety, which she didn’t try to hide.

      • Tealie says:

The ‘Home Counties’ are the counties surrounding London, some of the most expensive areas in the U.K (a.k.a posh)

      • notasugarhere says:

Those are also the counties where royals focus their ‘work’ because it is filled with old royalists. The CC used to show engagements on a map; 80+ percent were in the Home Counties.

  25. LeggsEgg says:

I love me a good polka dot, but isn’t it Summer? Long sleeves much??!

  26. LittlePenguin says:

I am a sucker for a polka dot pattern, but it just looks so boring on her. How can she have this power? She needs to pull up her hair so it isn’t so much in her face and add some colour. If her hair was up it could be one of her zillion pairs of Kiki earrings even! A coloured shoe or belt too could go so far in making this seem more modern.

    • Vava says:

That’s for d@mned sure. Kate has this way of making everything look boring. Most of the time I think about how whatever she’s wearing could be salvaged. First off, I don’t like those pleats on the bodice, they do not work with a polka fabric because the pleats distort the polka dot and to my eye that is a design flaw. Wickstead should know better. Secondly, I think a different belt would improve the look. Thirdly, those shoes are all wrong with this. And last but certainly not the least – the hairstyle is terrible.

I join the others in thinking this woman is ill. She needs some help, she’s wasting away before our very eyes.

  27. Lizzie says:

To me a summer dress is a linen shift similar to the one Meghan wore this week. The dress she is wearing is not for summer. Maybe that is a US view.

Dress and hair are as basic and average as the two last decades. On one hand I admire someone who knows sticks to their style but I know her style could be pulled of so much better. Has she ever been described as chic? Nope, just super clever for wearing rainbow colored tops while zooming.

    • PrincessK says:

And didn’t Meghan look gorgeous, even with all the unironed creases in that lovely dress, which is now completely sold out.

  28. Fallon says:

This picture is not a good picture. She looks unhinged. And I am someone who generally enjoys Kate.

  29. yinyang says:

Maybe Kate didn’t like how she looked here, on her KP site they quickly posted an older photo to be on top of their newsfeed.

  30. JV says:

I was scrolling through my instagram last night, and when I saw that KP had chosen that top photo as their main image, I actually laughed out loud! That maniacal grin and those jazz hands… why does she not understand how to be a normal human?

    • Tealie says:

Because she’s never HAD to be one, she has been coddled her whole life and never had to develop any social skills; work, earm respect and adoration or even learn the realities of life. Most of her reactions seem very mimicked, sort of like if you’ve only been watching exagerrated comedy shows your whole life

  31. Scollins says:

She looks demented. I’m sorry, her dresses are stupid fugly, her hair outdated, what a dowdy fuddy-duddy

  32. L4frimaire says:

Now I have that REM song stuck in my head. “ shiny happy people laughing ….” Such a great band. As for Kate, this is her “ job”. I find her an insincere, shallow backstabber, but Melania with the cold wolf eyes, and Betsy DeVos are my main evil villains right now ( so many to choose from in these Karenated times),so she can rictus grin away in peace.

  33. Lizstarsnstripes says:

    Graphic buttons!

  34. Flying Fish says:

I can never understand what the hell she says…

  35. Mariane says:

Another initiative hijacked by Dolittle🙄the whole thing was developed by bbc with experts but now the fail and her loyal RRs are making it as if she made the whole thing.
I agree with earlier poster, the keenbridges especially KeenKueen Kate has been heavily using black children since 2017!! I say heavily because it’s more than the common when they used to have them during minorty events & black commonwealth countries. Now they have them even where there’s less diverse population(research shows that most minorities live in cities/suburbs). I noticed they used that black family’s picture on RF account too🙄

  36. lili says:

Reading this comments was a relief because I thought “is my English that bad that I can’t understand Kate without subtitles”? Kate is very Kate. What I noticed she totally went anti-glamour. Long dresses. She used to show off her legs now she covers them. Only hair hair is with us to stay.

  37. Clickety Click says:

    Mouth agape Kate. 😃

  38. Elizabeth says:

That dress is $1880-some dollars and it isn’t even lined…

  39. WilliamJoelene says:

I could never love someone so much that Id agree to the role that she and Sophie Wessex took on.

  40. Michelle says:

I think she looks lovely in these pictures.

    • notasugarhere says:

Lovely to be doing nothing but posing mindlessly in yet another expensive, unnecessary dress in a PR photo op for a project 1) for which she did no work 2) and held off on announcing because she wanted to compete with Meghan actually WORKING? Sure Jan.
