Italy vs England rugby match in Rome

The Italy and England rugby teams will meet in Rome for the RBS 6 Nationals Rugby Tournament on 14 February 2016. Kick off time at 3pm (local time).

The British Embassy in Rome has travel advice for Italian and England Rugby Union supporters who are travelling to Rome for the match on 14 February 2016.

Passport and visas

  • you don’t need a visa to travel, but please check that your passport is valid for the whole of your trip to Italy;

  • make sure that you bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) – this proves your entitlement to free/reduced cost health care in case you need medical attention while in Italy;

  • the EHIC does not replace comprehensive travel insurance. It does not cover the entire cost of hospitalisation, and it does not cover repatriation should that be necessary;

  • even if you’re only going for one night, travel insurance can save you a lot of money in case you find yourself in a difficult situation;

  • you must carry ID with you all times and you’ll need to carry your passport to the match to gain entry to the stadium;

  • if you lose your passport you’ll need to get an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) from the British Embassy in Rome. You’ll need to supply a police report, flight reservation and one photo. The fee is £95;

  • keep an eye on your possessions at all times: pickpockets operate in large crowds as well as on public transport.

How to get to the Olympic Stadium

Take Metro Line A to Flaminio/Piazza del Popolo and walk to the Stadium (4.5 Km) for about 30 minutes. Otherwise you can take tram no. 2 from Piazzale Flaminio which takes you close to the Stadium. You can also take bus 910 from Roma Termini, get off at Piazza Antonio Mancini, then walk through the park, over the Bridge Duca D’Aosta and you’ll be at the Olympic Stadium.

Combined Metro and bus/tram tickets can be purchased from most tobacconists, bars, or vending machines at metro stations and major bus stops. Tickets cost €1.50. Please note that bus and tram tickets must be stamped in the small yellow ticket machine found on buses and trams as soon as you start your journey. Failure to do so will result in a fine.

At the stadium

The venue for the match is the Olympic Stadium in Rome. Kick-off time is 3pm local time, doors open at 1pm. You should try to arrive well in advance as access to the stadium might take some time. The stadium ticket office is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and will be open from 9.30am until 2pm on the day of the match.

A social area for the so-called “terzo tempo” is next to the stadium and will be open from 10am to 8pm. Italian police and stewards will conduct ticket checks and security screening. You might be required to show your ID if your name is printed on the ticket. Any items that could be used as weapons, like glass or plastic bottles, are not permitted inside the stadium.
