A gender gap in these personality traits might be responsible for a leadership gap

How

A new study looks at how differences in personality traits between men and women can affect possibilities of leadership.

A new study by Development Dimensions International, a global talent management consultancy, shows that men and women possess many of the same traits that it takes to become high-level leaders.

A difference emerges, however, when it comes to three personality factors that favor men over women. And it's the gap in these traits that might translate into fewer women being moved up the leadership ladder.

DDI's report, based on real behavior observed in leadership assessments and data from thousands of companies, showed that more women are singled out for lower-level leadership positions than higher ones. The authors argue that companies are missing out because they put more value on certain traits that favor men than women.

The chart below shows how this plays out in the promotion cycle.
