WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) — Workers at the site said the new MUSC outpatient facility at Citadel Mall is about 15% done, but demolition was quite the task.
This old J.C. Penney site in now home to what will be a 127,000 square foot facility that is well on its way.
Plumbing, framing, and the beginnings of walls are all that can be seen now, but Senior Superintendent of the site, Chris Freitag said he can see much more, like this project's impact on the community.
“One of our focuses on the job is to hire mainly local people. We’re looking for a certain percentage of personnel on site who are local to the community. We want to build it local, for our community, so that’s important for us.” Freitag, with M.B. Kahn construction said.
MUSC officials said December of this year is still the date they plan on admitting patients.

The Citadel Mall owner Richard Davis said this facility is latest part of his vision coming together to change how people think of a mall.
