The Baylor College of Medicine revenue cycle department has come back from dire situation that saw the division hemorrhaging staff over what CTO Alex Izaguirre called a lack of vision for department.

“Our revenue cycle IT team was struggling with providing adequate service to our customers,” Izaguirre said. “We lost almost half our staff and some of the remaining staff were not at the commensurate competence level to the jobs they had.”

To combat the issue, Izaguirre said they employed an outside firm to develop a solution and transform their foundering revenue cycle team.

They pinpointed three different focus areas that needed to be addressed: talent acquisition and retention, individual and team performance, and service delivery.

Izaguirre will be Baylor’s successful transformation during the session “IT Transformation: Revenue Cycle Insights from the CIO” on Wednesday at HIMSS16.

“We were able to address talent and retention issues by implementing more progressive approach to identifying candidates and developing better job descriptions.  Individuals and team performance issues were addressed by developing a team structure that drives the delineation of duties in clear manner. Additionally, much needed SOPs and SLAs were put in place.  Finally, service delivery was improved by implementing strong governance practices that drive clarity and discipline,” Izaguirre explained. “Our approach was highly effective.”

The session IT Transformation: Revenue Cycle Insights from the CIO is scheduled for Wednesday March 2, 2016 in the Sands Expo Convention Center Rock of Ages Theater from 2:30-3:30 PM.
