But there’s no doubt that characters like Peter Quill, Groot, and even the heavily-armed fur ball of fury that is Rocket are more family-family than some of those to be found in director James Gunn’s earlier films, Slither and Super. So, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that some pretty strange stuff has been percolating away in the writer-director’s subconscious — stuff which ultimately rose to the surface in a dream which inspired the idea for the new horror movie, The Belko Experiment (out March 17). “I had a dream on night — and I dreamed The Belko Experiment,” Gunn says in a new behind-the-scenes video. “The whole movie came to me at once, tonally, in terms of what it was, and what it could be. It was a really extreme film.” No kidding. Written by Gunn, directed by Greg McLean (Wolf Creek), and starring John Gallagher Jr., Tony Goldwyn, and John C. McGinley, among others, The Belko Experiment is set in a remote office building in Colombia where employees of the titular corporation are forced to kill each other — or be killed by the armed force which has surrounded their workplace.
