December ‘s Austin Bat Box celebrated the holidays with sparkly Texas stars! The Austin Bat Box is a monthly indie and artisan subscription box from Austin TX! Every month you’ll receive 4-5 items that coordinate with that month’s theme. Items range from food and beverages, handmade artisan items, art, music, fashion items, decor, jewelry, games, beauty products, and a whole bunch of weird stuff – because let’s face it, it’s Austin! I honestly thought the name stemmed from the keep Austin weird campaign, but it turns out that it’s named after their local bat colony. Also weird.
I absolutely loved this box as soon as I opened it! The December theme was The Stars At Night and the box was packed with holiday pretties.
All the information is on the card – and most importantly the makers’ websites!
Everything in the December 2015 Austin Bat Box!
Wick Habit Hand Poured Soy Candle Tin in Hippie Holidaze ($8) This is a custom scent just for subscribers! It’s hard to describe, but it totally smells like a hippie version of a holiday candle, and would be equally at home in a Burlington VT box! (This candle totally reminds me of my sister in law!). Wick Habit is of course an Austin maker!
Monster Dance Designs Stars Over Texas Etched Shot Glass ($9) I absolutely love this! I think it’s pretty and fun and definitely matches the theme, while still being totally Texas. Monster Dance makes “eccentric” etched glassware.
Christina’s Cards Handcrafted Greeting Card ($5) A pretty silver and black card!
Liber & Co Grenadine Cocktail Syrup ($8) It says right on the bottle that it’s REAL and they mean it – it’s made with pomegranate juice and orange blossom water and it was a perfect item for a festive December box. We totally made shirley temple’s with it! And yes, Liber & Co is from Austin!
Modern Alchemy Hematite Jacket Pin – Custom BatBox Design ($18) This is so gorgeous. The card notes that hematite is said to ground you and strengthens your willpower to help you achieve your goals. Some nice symbolism for the new year!
So pretty! I think this is perfect to close up a scarf or ruana in addition to pinning on a jacket!
Photos For The Living – Big & Bright Stars Over Marfa ($20) This print on lustre photo paper comes with a great mat that is also a standup frame, so you don’t have to shell out to have it done, or you can insert it right into a standard frame. The artist says:
The first in my upcoming Texas themed series of graphic designs & photography. “Stars Over Marfa” features my photo of… You guessed it… The starry night skies over Marfa, TX & iconic lyrics.
There is usually a monthly “swag bag”! It features swag and goodies from a variety of businesses (some from the box, some not) and you can show your Austin pride and support local Austin businesses.
I think this was a really awesome box! I loved the theme and all the items that were selected. I’m totally blown away how the curators are able to create a theme and carry it through with top quality items that have all been sourced from Austin artisans. It must be so difficult but they do it every month!
