Portrait of a Black Heart : A Dark Gay Fiction Novel (Deadly Sin Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.5 out of 5 stars 28 ratings

NEWLY EDITED

Archer’s black heart bleeds for no one…

Archer hates love stories. Give him loud music, obscure art, and horror movies, and he’ll be content. Although completely normal on the surface, Archer’s arrogance and prickly demeanor doesn’t make him many friends. Not that he gives a flying f*ck because relationships are for the weak.

Clint’s life is one big puzzle. On the cusp of his fifteenth wedding anniversary, he wonders why the hell he got hitched. He married someone he thought he’d fall in love with, but nothing sparked. Considering Clint was fastly approaching retirement from the police force, perhaps that didn’t matter.

Office holiday parties aren’t fun, but when a special guest catches Clint’s eye, things get interesting. Clint never intended to fall in lust with the artist, but the want outweighs the consequences, putting his good standing along with his marriage in jeopardy.

If only Archer cared about ruining things Clint worked so hard to build.

This was one hell of a fantastic, incredibly intense, powerful, raw, gritty, emotionally charged, smoking hot, delightful delightfully decadent, deliciously dark, naughty, enthralling, crazy, definitely different, completely unexpected, and totally awesome walk on the wild side. It had me hooked from beginning to end, ending up with a massive book hangover because I just could NOT put it down. This book is not light and fluffy, but if you love your stories with spice and bite, I would DEFINITELY recommend getting this marvelous masterpiece immediately!

Archer is one of the weirdest characters. He is hates people, germs, food, and just about everything else. However, if he can use it to benefit himself then he will. He has hardened his heart so when Clint comes along and cracks the shell Archer’s built it’s a surprise.

This one will not be for everyone it will trigger any negative emotion you might have and a few you didn’t. However, I enjoyed the way Archer took the negatives for a positive reason.

I read and voluntarily reviewed an arc of this story.

I can't say I was head over heels for the book Love Kills, but I figured I'd check this one out to see how Archer became Archer. Well, it certainly wasn't a thrill ride. I found it extremely hard to believe that nearly every man that came into his life instantly wanted to fall into bed with him. Sure, business acquaintances and others in one's life might become friends with benefits, but most likely not the instant they meet.

Overall the story was just dry, unrealistic, and plain boring. I found myself skimming it about halfway through, and only continued on to see if something interesting happened... it didn't.

I won't be sticking around for the third book.

The one star is not for the content, but for the extreme need for a spelling, punctuation, and grammar check.

This book was so damn good for a prequel. I loved Love Kills but this one? So worth it! Archer is a character you love to hate, all his issues make him so lovable. He is so passionate about his art. I appreciated reading his backstory to see how Archer is. I loved Clint too he balances Archer in just the perfect way. Now I have to reread Love Kills again!
A strong book and not for the faint of heart!

Archer is hard to love and hard to hate. He has his reasons for why he is as he is. Clint seems to be the catalist for Archer balances him.
This is an intense, emotional book. Be sure you are ready for all the raw emotion you will feel.
I was given an arc copy of this book with no requirement to write a review.

This story has so much potential to be great but the MC was too unlikable. Even knowing how he grew up it didn’t make anything better about him. I almost didn’t finish the book. There’s no way that every guy he met wanted to sleep with him. And him hitting on his dead boyfriends dad was just bad taste. If you like reading about things that would never happen this book is for you. Not for me though. Won’t be recommending it to anyone.

This book is not light it is dark and twisted but oh so hot. This was a wonderful prequel to Love Kills on how Clint and Archer meant. I was hooked from beginning to end I just couldn't put it down until I was finished and than I started reading Love Kills again. I definitely recommend this book if you like dark and twisted hot raw gritty books.

This book was a good read and hard to put down. The characters have so many sides it's easy to get lost in them. The story line keeps you turning the page.
Archer is a character that has lived through some hard times. He closes himself off to love because of his life this far. He refuses to love again. He's a strange character but one that it's easy to like.
Clint he's a married man but when he meets Archer he can't pretend any more.
Clint is the light that Archer needs but is he enough for Archer?
I can't wait to read on with their story and see what happens. This is well written and a great read.
