The Mere Golf Resort & Spa have been accredited as a Wellness For Cancer Centre, having trained their team of Spa Therapists in practices specifically for those undergoing cancer treatment.

Following a two day advanced training programme and dedicated online study, the resort’s team have been officially certified to provide safe and effective treatments for cancer patients.

US-based training practitioners, Wellness For Cancer developed their Cancer Aware programme alongside Oncologists, to fully understand the effects of cancer treatment on the body and the specific needs of those undergoing treatment. Their system focusses on comforting and relaxing spa guests during what is naturally a sensitive time. When performing massage on guests undergoing cancer treatment, care must be taken to ensure that the lymphatic system is protected and that lighter pressure is used on sensitive areas.

The Mere Resort’s Health Club & Spa Manager, Stephanie Holland says;

“This training went beyond the knowledge of mainstream massage, and taught our team of thearpists about the effects cancer treatments can have on the body. Understanding the harsh side effects of chemotherapy enables us to better understand how we can ensure our guests are comforted and relaxed.“
