Netflix officially reviving Gilmore Girls

After unconfirmed reports about the show's revival surfaced back in October, Netflix officially confirmed it would be reviving Gilmore Girls. The streaming service tweeted out confirmation on Friday that it bought the rights to the show.

Series star Lauren Graham also tweeted out a photo of herself holding a Gilmore Girls jacket and confirmed she would be returning to the show to reprise her role as Lorelai Gilmore.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, most of the original cast is set to return for the new series, including Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena.

Original reports from last year insinuated that the series would air as four 90-minute episodes instead of a traditional 10-episode block. Netflix hasn't yet said which format the series would be released in, but Polygon has reached out for comment.

Gilmore Girls first premiered in 2000 and ran for seven seasons on The CW. The show followed Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory (played by Bledel) as they tried to make it through day-to-day life.

There's currently no release date set for the revival, but all seven seasons of the show are currently available to stream on the service.
