Denver Broncos will wear white jerseys in Super Bowl 50

The Denver Broncos will wear white jerseys against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, NFL Network announced Monday. White is the team’s away color. Since the Broncos chose white, the Panther will wear black.

Choice of jersey color alternates every year between AFC and NFC champions. This year’s choice went to AFC Champion Broncos.

When the Broncos played the last time in the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium in 2014, the team chose orange jerseys.

For those Broncos fans who are superstitious, the choice of white makes sense. In the seven prior Super Bowls, the Broncos are 0-4 in orange, 1-1 in white, and 1-0 in blue. In 2012 the Broncos switched to orange for their home jerseys. But blue is retained as an alternative.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the only other team to choose a white road jersey in Super Bowl XLV.

White has been a lucky Super Bowl jersey color with 10 of the 11 teams winning.

This will mark Cam Newton’s first Super Bowl appearance.

Appearing in their record tying eight Super Bowl appearances, the Broncos will play the Panthers on February 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game will be televised on CBS and starts at 4:30 PM MST.
