Poetry Slam

Soul Verse presents a special evening with National Poetry Slam Champion and 6X HBO Def Poet Mayda Del Valle on Friday, Nov. 2 at the New Mexico State University College of Health and Social Sciences Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Some adult language and themes; parental guidance advised. Free admission. Del Valle got her start at New York City's legendary Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, going on to win the 2001 National Poetry Slam Individual title, becoming the youngest and first Latina poet to do so. She went on to appear on six episodes of HBO Def Poetry and was a contributing writer and original cast member of the Tony Award winning Def Poetry Jam on Broadway. Info:soulversenm@gmail.com

Dia de los Muertos

Celebrate the Day of the Dead from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and throughout the day, beginning at noon, on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4. on the Mesilla Plaza. The candelight procession begins at 6:45 p.m. Friday, from the plaza. The event includes homemade altars on display, live music, ballet folkorico dancers and food vendors. "Route 66 Traveling through Song”

Boba Café & Cabaret, 1900 S. Espina St., presents “Route 66 Traveling through Song,” a show saluting the faithful highway and a time when travelers cared about the road they traveled versus where the road took them. Songs of the show will highlight attractions found all along the road of Route 66. The show will include the classic “Get Your Kicks (Route 66)” and “409” by The Beach Boys, along with “Another Day of Sun” from “La La Land” and more. The show will run Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 3, and Nov. 9 and 10, with a dinner show (tickets are $27.50) at 6 p.m. and Cocktail show (tickets are $12.50) at 8:30 p.m. Info: 575-647-5900

Saturday Family Science

The Museum of Nature and Science, 411 N. Main Street, presents, Saturday Family Science - Daylight Savings Time at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. Participants will explore why we set our clocks differently for the summer and how this time change effects our lives. Learn how to use the sun to measure time and build your own pocket sun dial. Bourbon & Barbecue

Get your tickets for El Paso’s second annual Bourbon & Barbecue from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Southwest University Park, 1 Ballpark Plaza, in El Paso. The event will feature bourbons from all over the U.S., with experts on hand to talk about tastings. Tickets are $65 and includes five bourbon tastings and a barbecue meal. True bourbon lovers can pay a $20 upgrade option for five additional tastings and a tasting glass. VIP table packages are also available.
