Special Olympics Athletes Hit the Beach for a Sports Day

By Lindsey Rogers

Last week, 15 kids hit the beach in South Walton to participate in a sports day, which included soccer, bocce ball and yoga by local instructor Angela Ragsdale.

The event was put on by the Special Olympics of Walton County and sponsored by Cisco Systems. Close to 25 volunteers were in attendance playing sports and providing the athletes with food and fun at Ed Walline Regional Beach Access near Gulf Place.

Stephanie Phillips of Cisco Systems said June 8th is the company’s global giving back day.

“Our purpose is to give back to our communities, work together and have some fun while we’re doing it,” Phillips said.

In addition to Cisco Systems, Mattress Firm provided volunteers, Roux 30A served lunch and Dillon’s Beach Services set up chairs and umbrellas.
