AUGUSTA, Ga. — Flagler College had one of its best seasons in 2020-21, and that has culminated in winning the Peach Belt Conference's Commissioner's Cup for the second year in a row. Flagler last won the Commissioner's Cup following the 2018-19 season. The award was not presented at the end of the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Flagler is the first school to successfully defend the Commissioner's Cup since Armstrong State University (2012-15).
The Cup is presented annually the best overall athletics department based on regular-season standings and select championships. The PBC Commissioner's Cup is determined by calculating the number of points possible to each school, given the number of sports in which they participate, and the number of schools that sponsor each sport, divided by the number of points earned during the year. Points are determined by placement in the final regular-season standings in each of the PBC's 16 championship sports.
"We are thrilled to repeat as Commissioner's Cup champions in such a highly competitive conference," said director of athletics
Jud Damon. "I think this is a tremendous recognition for the College and a testament to the quality of our outstanding coaching staff and student-athletes. This is truly a team effort!"
Flagler had a record nine teams finish in the top four in its respective standings, which translated into tallying 95.5 points out of a possible 125 for a .764 rating. Flagler won regular season titles in men's basketball, women's soccer, and volleyball. The women's cross country and women's golf teams won both of their conference championships. Women's tennis finished in second place while the men finished in fourth place. The men's cross country team finished in second place at the conference championships. Men's soccer finished in third place.
Following Flagler was the University of North Georgia (.757) as the Saints edged the Nighthawks by a .007 margin, which is the closest finish in the Cup standings since the University of North Florida edged Kennesaw State University by .006 in 2003-04. The complete list can be seen below:
