What is a Makerspace?
A Makerspace, also often referred to as Fab Lab or Hackerspace, is a physical space where people gather to learn and create together. There is no specific set of tools or services that define a Makerspace. Nonetheless, its equipment usually allows for a wide range of activities to take place; from craft and image or video editing, to electronics, robotics and 3D printing.

In recent years, many Public Libraries worldwide opened Makerspaces in their premises, embracing the potential that technology can offer in strengthening their communities. Among them, there is a growing number of Public Library Makerspaces in European countries. In many cases, even if there is no dedicated Makerspace in the Library, many host Making activities through occasional or regular workshops or classes for their patrons.

To help us assess the current European landscape of Public Library Makerspaces, even if you do not currently have a Makerspace in your organisation, please take a few moments to complete the following five-minute survey.
