On a hot and sunny Thursday evening, the Princeton Community High School Lady Tigers golf team hosted the Gibson Southern High School Lady Titans golf team at the Princeton Country Club.

In their first match of the season, the Tigers couldn’t hold off the Titans, falling with a final score of 179-231 in the 9-hole duel.

“Well we didn’t play as well as we did on Tuesday night,” said Titans head coach David Pemberton, “of course the course probably had something to do with that. Overall it was a good score, 179? I’ll take that.”

Tigers head coach Jenny Kolb sees room for improvement since it was their first match of the season.

“Well, 231 isn’t our best score ever,” Kolb said. “Some of our girls have improved from what they’ve been shooting. It’s our first match and we’ve got time to improve. And we’re going to.”

The medalist of the day was Titan Kenzie Whitten, shooting a 41 in the event while only recording 14 putts.

“Whitten started out rough but she had a couple of birdies on the last few holes and drove the green on No. 9,” Pemberton said of his No. 1 player.

Leading the way for the Tigers was No. 1 Haley York. York shot a 49, the fourth lowest score of the match.

“Haley struggled off the tee a little bit,” Kolb said, “but she finished up with a 49. From where she started, she ended a lot better.”

For the Titans, Julia Angermeier recorded a 44 on the day and was followed close behind by Ellie Marshall and Allie Sensmeier, who both shot 47s.

Liz Angermeier, the sister of Julia, shot a 52 while Clarie Jones shot a 51 and Lexi Hunt shot a 53.

For the Tigers, Alli Craven shot a 55, the second lowest score for Princeton. Following Craven was Bree Moody (62), Renee Bower (65), Brittany Griffin (70) and Holly Sullivan (74).

Up next for both teams is the Lady Titan Invite at Cambridge Golf Course in Evansville on Saturday, Aug. 13 starting at 1 p.m. if weather allows.
