Should Guardiola’s Interest In This Arsenal Midfielder Be Taken Seriously?

Jack Wilshere who most feel has been around forever at Emirates is rumored to have made Guardiola’s priority wanted list. The midfielder who has been playing for Arsenal for 8 years now, was eyed by the Catalan manager even since he was in charge of Barcelona. Deemed as one of the most creative players of his generation and also as one of the most complete, he remained on Barcelona’s list even after Pep left Spain for Bayern. At some point some said he is the perfect replacement for Xavi who was leaving Barca at that time. There is no doubt that the talent is there and that Wilshere could play for any team in the world. With that in mind, should Wenger start to worry about the fact that Wilshere might be a top target for Manchester City?

According to Metro, Guardiola wants to pair Gundogan with Arsenal’s midfielder and build a similar line-up as he had when managing Barcelona. Even though a declared Gunner, there might be a very small chance that Wilshere would want to leave. City is known for luring Arsenal players with bigger salaries and the promise of a spot in the starting eleven which is what Guardiola will offer the England international. Right now, Wilshere is making around £90,000-per-week which is the 5th biggest salary in Arsenal’s lot. Even so that is half of what he would be making if joining Manchester City.

Despite the extra money, the mirage of playing more is not something to lure Wilshere with. Everybody knows that if he were to stay healthy he would be Wenger’s number one pick. He still has a lot to prove at the Emirates where despite being the most injured player in the lot, he still gets the attention and the respect a player of his quality should receive. Wilshere looks like the kind of player who will end his career at the Emirates. Even with all the disciplinary issues, Wenger was always there and gave the midfielder all the chances he could get.

Hopefully the 900 days spent in recovery due to injury will be put behind him soon. Fans are still expecting Wilshere to come through as the team’s new leading figure. He still has time and he should forget about any offers from rival clubs. Wenger will surely offer him an extension next season, an extension that will come right away if Wilshere manages to play more than 10-15 games without any health problems
